CDV Delete - need right brake fluid
I am getting ready to do the CDV delete on my e93, and then on my e61 if I like the result. The only piece I need is the right brake fluid to add to the BMW dealer installed fluid to top off. The car has pretty fresh fluid done a few months ago by BMW Gallery-Norwood under the 4 year coverage, so I am not planning on a full fluid flush. Can someone tell me just what fluid I can buy locally (AutoZone, etc) that will be 100% compatible? Thanks

Anything DOT4 should be compatible. I think DOT3 is too but I'm not sure. If you want to be safe, you can just buy a bottle at the dealership. It's not that expensive.

Dealer would be fine for such a small purchase, but it is a pain to get there while the parts dept. is open. Seems that it should be simple to buy a quart of good stuff at local store, just want to be sure I get compatability with dealer stuff - DOT 4, DOT 5, other?

There are a lot of threads on the CDV delete, all saying that it makes the clutch much move satisfactory (firm and positive action). I am hoping that deleting teh valve removes the disconnected feel of clutch and makes it more like an old fashioned action where you can actually tell when it is at the engagement point, etc. I have never seen an authorative write-up as to why that valve is being installed by BMW, but it has been there for something like the last 10 years, I think. Roundel writers have said that it also causes faster wear of the clutch, versus a good clutch driver with no valve. In any case, it looks like a very simple exercise, now that teh warranty has gone, and Spring weather is arriving. Can always put the valve back in place. I bought one new open valve from Bavarian, so Ican rreuse tehold if needed. If I like it, I'll open up the old valve from the e93 and use that in the e61 - there are threads that show how easy it is to remove the internal restriction in the OEM valve and then reuse it.
