Blacked out interior
Another homeless z4um member here. I thought this section would get more action so Mods don't hesitate if this needs to be moved. Any ways, I've been wanting to black out the interior for a while and since everything is plastic I went out and bought a can of plasti dip. Im thinking of just doing the door trim, roll hoop covers, and seat belt retainer so I can get an idea how it will look. Has anyone painted the interior yet?

i've known people that dyed their interiors, but with wear and time, the original color came back. In the last case, it was dying red black. Soon the red was showing through the black. Cool at first, then
Having a beige interior, I had thought about doing the same, then remembered what i had seen before. I'll stick with dingy beige.

I agree with the above opinions... I can't imagine it working out well. Between UV rays and wear, it sounds like a recipe for regret.

Haha,
Guys I have black leather interior I'm just taking off the door panel removing the door handles and the gray plastic door pulls and spraying them with the rubber coating. I am going to buy the mrpaddleshift.com m steering wheel and thought it would clash with the silver trim. I already tested the plasti dip on the door pulls and it seems like it will hold alot better than paint. I'll put up pics when I get done. Trust me it wont look that bad |

I thought about that, I sprayed a pair of grill surrounds with paint. The paint held up pretty well but always ended up flaking off. I decided to try something a little more heavy duty. I had seen some guys on e46fanatics use the plasti dip spray so I decided to try it. I'm just waiting to see how the door handles hold up to daily use.

I painted my roll hoops black. Not going to paint anything else though because I think the rest of the silver trim is a nice accent. Just wanted to paint the hoops because I think the silver makes them look to cheap and plasticy. After seeing black roll hoops on an ///M, it inspired me to do the same.
Very simple to do. Just remove the seatbelt guide brackets using an allen wrench, remove the rubber seal at the base of the hoops, mask off the rest of your car with plastic tarp (or garbage bags), sand, primer, and spray. I used generic flat black paint. Turned out pretty well. Some pics:

Ahhh... just the plasitc parts... ahhh.. better.
I agree that the black rollbars look better, and I can imagine the same with the palstic door handles, etc. You had me scared for a minute. |

Yep just the plastic parts. I think with the way my car is set up it will look better with the door trim painted and the m dash and center console trim. What I'm really worried about is how the matte black csl reps are going to look when they are mounted.

But why paint the roll hoops? Won't they get all dinged and scratched when the car rolls over anyway? Seems like a waste.
