Why BMW can't make nav as a standard in 3 series?

When I shopped for a 3 series. 1 out of 20 cars only had a nav. It was very difficult to find. The 5 series comes with one. BMW should just include it... it is a luxury brand.

The car looks so dull and boring without one.

When I shopped for mine, almost every car on the lot had NAV. BMW San Antonio tends to sell loaded cars I guess.

x2 + weight saving for the car enthusiast...

In addition the 3 series is the entry level bimmer... 1 series price wise, but its a small 2 door car... in us anyways...

And as mentioned above german cars and options... Even with the Ms you have to select your options...

Most and if not all brand of cars do not have NAV as standard equipment. It is to keep cost down for consumers. I believed NAV is about a $2000+ option on most brand.

Even the 5 Series does not all come w/Nav standard. 528 & 535, it is part of the technology optional package. 550 on up, it is standard.

So BMW should simply add $2k to the price of every car they import?

I can't think of a quicker way to increase the sales of Mercedes/Audi/Lexus/Infinity than to do that.

Not to mention some people think the BMW nav is junk (like me) and would like the option to add something aftermarket.

I'd prefer a 3-series without nav. I think the dash looks cleaner without it, and I don't use nav often, so it makes more sense for me to buy a $100 Garmin rather than a $2k built-in system. Besides, a 2007 car would come with a 2007 nav, and technology is moving quickly.

I had originally REALLY wanted the iDrive. I passed up an 06 330i 6MT with every package sans iDrive for my current 06 330xi with every option sans Sport. Kicking myself in the dick ever since.

My Android phone has better Nav than the BMW stuff.
I get updated maps, etc......
It came with the phone.
I'd rather spend 2 large on something else.

Well, most people would agree if we were talking buying brand new

In my opinion, if you can afford the car brand new, you should be able to afford to get it fully loaded. Even though I hate the nav... I just like iDrive because of the interaction with the car's settings/climate/phone... It's easier to keep my eyes on the road if I need to mess with this stuff, but I could definitely live without it.

In my case, I was shopping used just back in October

Maybe it's a stretch and the extra $2K puts it out of the budget.
Maybe people don't want to pay $2K for Nav that is under featured and over priced?
Maybe people just don't want it?

I don't know about nav, but they should include the angel eyes as a standard really.

+1

When I see a BMW with halogen lights, it just looked so F*** up. The AE is a BMW trademark. Should be standard.

This logic drives me crazy. Just because I can, doesn't mean I want to. And yeah, 2 grand could be over the breaking point for some people who have the means to drive a nice car, but not waste money on things they don't want/need.

OP might have been confused as iDrive is standard in the 5 series - but not Nav (except in the 550). They have always been bundled together in the 1 and 3 series.
