RPM Needle Wiggle at Idle?
Anyone else get slight movement in their RPM needle while it is working its way down to the 600rpm idle, and while it is there? Its pretty minimal, maybe up to 650/700. The engine doesn't seem rough and everything appears normal. I have just noticed and have been obsessing over it, by the way, the car has 50k and hasn't had to go in for any previous engine work.
Any input would be appreciated, thanks. PS- Also happens when engine is warm. |

my car does the same at idle, the tach does seem to fluctuate about 100rpm here and there. i think it has something to do with the electronics controlling the very low idle to conserve gas (i think i had read that somewhere).

completely normal. I ve seen this since I bought my car in 06. If is shakes at times then there could be an issue with fuel injectors...or something. Just my two cents...

For the AT: does it do it only in drive, or in neutral to?

probably just the way it idles like someone else said to cut fuel as little as possible, occasionally it proably has top bump in more fuel to keep it running.....iv never noticed mine but i never pay attention to my tach so...doesnt sound like tis a real problem tho...?

Mine does this when I put it into DS at a stop and shift into M1 with a cold engine. After moving and coming to another stop it is fine. Service could not find any stored codes so they didn't think much.

It's fairly normal. My car idles a little below 700 so I guess I fall into the range you stated. As long as your car isn't jerking and the needle isn't blipping up and down, you should be good.

It's normal for an auto in gear in my experience. Neutral sounds like the idle is a tad to low, hence asking you to check.

Ive got the exact same fluctuations does anybody know how to get this fixed? it started to fluctuate after I got the updated valve lifters to get rid of the knocking sound. My car is a 08 328xi currently 83,000kms about 52000mls and I've used shell 91 vpower (highest grade fuel we got in canada) since day 1
