The engine was running fine and you drove it to a dealer who is now saying a connecting rod has seized due to swirl flap damage?
Or have I misunderstood?

In that case theyve taken the car out for a good thrashing to try and force a regeneration of the DPF and over reved it causing engine failure..

Or is it possible they meant a different rod?

The 335d is an auto box which changes up before it over revs. Diesels are built pretty strong due to the nature of there design. Siezing a con rod would seem very doubtful to me.

I've yet to hear of a confirmed case of Swirl Flap failure on the e90. My brothers 335d has just ticked onto 123k miles with no such issues.

Ask them which fault codes are logged.

I assume the car has been serviced as required?

Cars done 47k miles they wouldn't have take. It for a thrashing because you can't force the car to regenerate after the fault code has been logged you have to connect to the diagnostic tool and reset the codes. Then they force regen it in the garage.
Latest update there is a valve which moves the rod which has failed and needs replacing at a cost of £500 all in.
Can't wait to get it back they gave me a corsa 1.4 as a loner talk about like for like

They can't possibly mean a con-rod.

+1!

And even if they did, since when can you access con rods by removing the inlet manifold?

OP - if its out of warranty, try a good indy instead.

I don't know how the swirl flaps & egr are configured on a BMW but maybe he's referring to the actuator rod?

I can't see how a swirl flap rod would indicate DPF failure on I drive?
Swirl flaps can be blanked (no need on e90) with no issues so even without it working properly I can't see the problem.
Be interesting to see what they do and if it cures your fault though.

Sounds like a lot was lost in translation from the tech to the CS to the customer. You would think the CS's would pickup some common issues and have basic understanding of cars, but it's shocking how much confusion they can make because they haven't got a clue.

OP, I hope everything works out for you and they are able to explain what rod they think is the problem?
