Tyre help - 265 on a 255 rear?

Chaps,

I'm looking at buying some new rubber for my 19" 230's.

I've priced up a number of different tyres and finding a matching set from a decent brand at a decent price can be quite painful.

Recently I've read a few posts where people are running a 265 tyre on the rears where the standard fit is 255?

I'm slightly confused - how does this affect the car? Can anyone running this set up give me some feedback? Does anyone have any pictures of a 265 tyre on 230 wheels? Is it safe to run this setup?

I will happily admit I'm not too clued up on this topic, so all advice is welcome!

Im running 265 19" rears and 235 19' fronts, non run flat, no problems at all, 255's are a run flat size. You'd be hard pushed telling the difference when they're on the car

You wont notice, 265 is perfectly okay in spec on that size 230 style alloy.
I run that size on my coupe, as doa lot of others on here.

Hi guys,

Thank you for your replies, you've put my mind at ease.

Does this mean that I have to go for a 265/35/19 if I went this route? Or can I stick to a 265/30/19?

Thanks again!

There are few, if any, making a 255/30/19
Which is why people like me running the popular budget tyres like Falkens have no choice but to fit the 265/30/19.
I upped the front a size too, just for 'equality' and because they are easy to find.
I wouldnt up the profile to 35 at the back however, there is no real need and it'll upset the speedo accuracy a little.
