F30 with BMW N55 performance power kit tune
I have a 2012 F30 sport (melbourne red) on order with expected delivery in two weeks. I have asked the dealership to install the BMW N55 performance chip right away. This is the chip that takes it to 335is numbers for hp/torque.
Has anyone tried the BMW performance chip on the F30 N55? Does it work with the engine management settings? ie. Sport, sport+ etc? I'm not too worried about break-in period....but want to make sure that the engine management system will work with the chip, and that I will still get smooth power delivery. Dealer said its compatible, but they have not put it on any F30's. I live four hours from the closest dealership, so I wanted the chip put on right away and save myself a drive back in 4wks. Thanks in advance, if you have any information or ideas! |

Is it a chip or just a software mod?

I think the OP is referring to the Performance Power Kit.

I'm using Georgian BMW in Barrie, solely because there are closest to me. They're installing chip for $1200. I'm sticking to BMW chip because I'm leasing....And yes i'm in North Bay ON, I have 2m of snow still on my front yard, may have to consider the winter tire package with a march delivery!!!! How crazy is that.

I know it's a bit of a risk, but I needed a new car this spring and couldn't wait for the M package. I was thinking the chip would be good for that bit extra....especially torque. |

That sounds like the way to go....I'll wait. I don't want my car to be the test case. I was surprised the dealer agreed to put that tune on the car.

I would be surprised if it worked without problems
The F30 uses a new ECU with new software to control things like Stop/start and new exhaust oxygen sensor and oil pressure sensors. The F30 also uses a different type of oil level sensor to the E90

Best of luck if you want to be the first gueana pig with the chip. In my opinion, waiting and making the 4 hour trip later would be the least trouble way to go.
By the way, you have to make the 4 hour trip for regular maintenance anyway, right? So it's not like you're never going back to your dealership. |

Then you can also tell the difference and know there is more power and not just maybe have been duped by a bad dealer saying they put a tune in when they may not have.

BTW, what was the upgrade price, same as for the e90/e92? Which was $550 I believe. *Edit - I saw you payed $1200 for the upgrade? I might think twice about this now. But still not to bad for the performance. Also, is what you are talking about the same as this http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=553916 |

BMW just announced bunch of performance components, one of them Power Kit for F30 335. It has a note on that option: availability depends on engine type.
By the way same note for the exhaust system. I assume that this options are available now. I am checking with my dealer to confirm or deny. Got info from dealer: parts not available yet, he did not have dates. Last edited by nofuture; 03-06-2012 at 11:52 AM.. |

$1200 is a lot but it;s relative. You get a huge boost in torque, it turns a sporty car into a sports car, and you get the piece of mind of having a BMW product in a BMW. |
