Just Had Latest iDrive Software Update

I just picked up my car. I got the latest update, which, I believe, is 25.00.02 or 25.02.00, depending upon the nomenclature BMW uses.

It works perfectly.

Nice new graphic interface.
New POI searches (lame, but works)
Even Typestyle in Center Instrument Cluster is NEW
Map has new colors (background is BLUE instead of WHITE -- I prefer White)
No more ACCEPT requirement
Pairs with my Motorola E815 perfectly
Address Book in Navigation Still There
CD Stops Playing when turned off
Mirror and Seat Settings were saved in my Key (I did NOT take to dealer), so my settings and FM stations, etc., are still there.

I do not seem to have lost anything.

So, I'm a happy camper.

But, brakes still seem to grab and I'll see if shifting or acceleration is different and report back.

Larry in Los Angeles

PLEASE SEE MY UPDATED AND CORRECTED POST BELOW: I MADE A FEW ERRORS IN THE ABOVE COMMENTS

I AM GOING TO TAKE PICTURES RIGHT NOW AND WILL POST THEM IF THEY TURN OUT OK.

I had my software updated last week while in for service. Told that about the navigation arrow prompt issue and after showing the TSB to them, they updated the software.

One thing I noticed since the upgrade is that I can't find the vehicle service information that I used to have. You used to be able to see the engine oil level, when it needs its next oil change, brake pads, etc.

Is this info still available, or did they remove it?

Gatorbob, All that should stay the same, or at least it stayed the same on mine when they updated the software to 25.02. They updated mine about 3 weeks ago when they had to change the TCU. I guess the TCU si the module where the BMW Asist resides. Mine wouldn't ccall out. The good ews is everything is great... better then new. and I agree with everything that LarryK1000 said exsept for I last all the recent finds in the Navi. Address book remained but the short turm memory I call it was lost. Also I lost bluetooth and had to re-pair it.

For got one thing, when I tried to re-pair my E815 Motorola phone to bluetooth it wouldn't take. I tried to pair with my Blackberry 7100 and nothing. Tryed my Brother-in-laws Motorola Razer and nothing. Droped by the dealer to see what they thought and they had no luck so they hooked it up to some test equipment and said that the TCU was still bad and made an apointment to bring it back. When the wife droped it off the service island jocky asked to give it a try before we left it and he paired it first try? Don't whats up wit hthat but everything is working know!!!!

MODIFICATION OF PRIOR POST: MORE TIME SPENT IN CAR

Just spent some more time driving and I an in error, but only slightly:

1. I, in fact, DID lose the PAST DESTINATIONS in Navigation. That is all that I lost. Address Book contents were all there. I think when they put the new software in, the cache where the Past Destinations reside is cleared. The Address Book is, obviously, stored in a less volatile location; and

2. The Personal Settings (Pathway Lighting, Lock All Doors, Lock Automatically, etc., etc., were all lost). This was no big deal. Took 2 seconds to put back in.

The real problem would have been losing seat and mirror positions, phonebook and Nav Address Book. So, all is good here.

Also, I noticed that you don't have to be in Navigation to do the searches for POI on the Navigation disk. It is also available in the "i" menu in the Vehicle Settings menu, I believe, and is called INFORMATION, or something like that. If you do the search there, it gives you the Navigation choices once you select the particular item you are searching for. So, it's nice to have 2 ways to get to the Nav DVD data.

I'd like to know if others think the pretty dark blue background on maps is hard to see. And, when using the phone, the screen goes to a dark ORANGE for the letters and they are a lot harder to see than the original light color. See, sometimes, things are NOT changed for the better.

But, overall, I think this is a great update.

And, not having to push that stupid ACCEPT button is the BEST feature.

L

Ya!!! no ACCEPT. I'm OK with the colors though and I did notice the new information option. Aso there seems to be some short cuts added. When the bluetooth was on the blink if I would go to Comunications it would say sonthing like "no bluetooth connection go to settings to pair phone" and the settings option would apear on the bottom highlighted in the orange color so you just had to push down on the i drive wheel.

OK: Here are pictures: First 10 are here. See next msg for rest.......

1. Main Screen
2. Normal Warning Screen, but disappears on its OWN ... Yeh !
3. Main Menu (Notice new Silver tone rather than Brown)
4. When you push "i" Menu, you get these Choices. INFO SOURCES is new.
5. When you push INFO SOURCES you get TRAVEL INFO or SERVICE. Travel Info is the Navigation DVD Information
6. When you push TRAVEL INFO, you have 3 choices (just like Nav Program)
7. I pushed ON LOCATION, thenyou get these choices...
8. Continuation of choices...
9. I pushed DINING AND ENTERTAINMENT
10. You get these choices: I chose RESTAURANTS
11. I picked ALL RESTAURANTS rather than specific types (broader search)
12. Then you get the Search Window. You move to NAME to enter a name. You can change the MAX DISTANCE you want it to search.
13. I put in EL TORITO
14. Then you go to STORE NAME (It's not easy to get to it, I had trouble)
15. Then you START SEARCH
16. Searching Screen
17. Results: There were 14. You can go to TOP and push RIGHT and LEFT arrow to see more choices.
18. I picked the first one, El Torito Sherman Oaks
19. You go to the address, with the >. icon and push controller
20. It starts Guidance
21. Navigation Map appears

So, that's the new sequence. You do the same thing through the Navigation Menu rather than the "i" Menu method. Two portals to the same thing.

Enjoy.

Seems to be nav dvd version related and not progman.
My 2006.2 is fast.
my 2007.2 is slow to calculate a route.

I did 2 copies recently of my 2007 dvd.
one with nero
second with ultraiso (image) and DVD decrpter (copy) with 1x speed.
the first one was poor.
the second trace route very quickly. much more than my 2006 copy i owned (which was copied with the first method)

After 2 weeks with Updated Software:

It's working great, the but ABSOLUTE BEST thing is not having to push that f____ing ACCEPT button.

It's so nice just driving away and the screen returning to where I left it after about 15 seconds.

P R I C E L E S S.......

Is the bootup sequence any faster? And it returns to the same screen you left off once the disclaimer goes away? For example, if you leave it on entertainment screen, once the system boots up, it will return to that last screen?

1. If the boot up speed is any faster, it's only a little bit faster.

2. Yes, it returns precisely to the last screens you were on. I usually leave the big screen on Nav and the small screen on Current Location. So, this morning on the way to the gym, those are the screens it went to when it automatically went past the ACCEPT screen on its own.

3. I think that the voice command function is better, but only slightly. And, they've added new features to it, like being able to tell it to go to AUX. It did not do that before.

The only thing I don't like is the new medium blue background color on maps.

?? i have the old verision and my "Accept" screen looks just like your and does go away after 15 as well.... I though the update eliminates the need to press accept. Like when i turn my car on after the BMW screen that warning screen comes up... then it just goes away after like 15 seconds. I though with the new update, you won't need the accept button it will go away after few seconds...

At least that's what i think i read from another member.
Mine does not however have that POI search, which i would love to have.

The "accept" thing was addressed in like PROGMAN 23 or 24. For those of us who had older versions, the update to v25 was the first time we had this new feature.

Interesting about the speed of calculating a route 2006.2 versus 2007.2. One of my e90post buddies was complaining about how his nav took forever to calculate a route or recalculate a route when he missed a turn. Mine doesn't take long to calculate (about the same as a Garmin) and recalculation when you miss a turn is essentially instant, much faster than even Garmin. I have a 330i with 2006.2, he has a 335i with 2007.x. I wonder if that's the issue.
