Climate Control Sensor
Does anyone know where the climate control reads its internal air temp from?
My air con seems to do nothing in auto until I set the temp down to 16 so i'm guessing that the temp sensor is knackered or disconnected. |

What are you expecting it to do exactly?
16 is max cool, so it will run full-blast cold on that. 20 should just give a gentle low fan speed heating this time of year imo. |

I had it set to 17 for a while on the weekend and the fan was sat on 2 bars while I roasted away. The air coming from the vents wasn't cool either. As soon as I adjusted it to 16 the fan shot up to max and starting making cold air.
If what I have read is correct then 16 is just an override for the temp sensor, it just maxes out regardless of temperature. I'm sure the A/C worked fine last summer but this is the first time this year I've actually needed cooling down and it no longer works correctly. |

From memory, if you select a higher than one bar on the fan speed, you are no longer in "auto" mode. It's only later cars where you can change the fan speed and still be in "Auto" mode.

you sure the wheel above the electronic display (under the vents) is set to blue if you want cold air and red if you want warm air?

I'll also check the grill area on the CC unit and give it a dust down. |

It is there so you can set the air blowing into your face at the temp that you like, if the car is pumping really hot air in the cabin it is not nice when it is blowing into your face.
It is a brilliant design that I miss so much in other cars. |

+1, the centre wheel is just for the center vent, so you can manually separately control the air in your face from the main cabin air.
Great idea. OP - you sure the auto light and the snowflake are on? |

Thanks for clearing the wheel thing up. I thought it was controlling all vents.
Yup both are on. It just seems that no matter what temperature the CC is set to the fans are running on two bars. I have tried maxing the fan then turning it back to auto but it just ramps back down and sits at two bars again. |

The fans should always end up on 2 bars, you can override this if you want more heat/cold, but the whole point of the system is to get the car to temperature and keep it there.
So once it has cooled down to 21°c (or whatever you set it to) then it should find it easy to keep it there. If it is 35°c outside then you may find the fans sit at 3 bars to keep it at that temperature, but in general 2 bars is where I would expect it to be. |

That sounds OK to me OP.
This time of year, if it's say 10 deg outside, the vents will blow fairly gentle warm air to acheive 17 inside the car, why would they blow cold air if it is less than 17 outside? With sunshine on the dashtop sensor, it may blow cooler to offset the sun warming effect, but with no sunshine, you would expect warm air if the set temp is higher than the outside temp. (i.e. 17 set in February!) So you may be warm for some reason, but I bet it is 17 in the car as you have requested. Also, make sure all your vents are OPEN.
