How long will my pads last?

Hi all

The OBC has warned me that brake pads need changing! (car on ramp sign and handbrake sign). My car is booked in for MOT on 31 March.... does anyone know roughly how many more miles I can do on the old pads? I'd prefer to leave it until I have the MOT done to change the pads to avoid two visits to the garage so close together. And will the brakes become noisy before the pads wear out altogether so I've got a bit of notice?

It is very hard to say, how many miles will you get after having warning.
All depends on how you drive it.
Although there was about 2mm layer left on my pad, still it is not advisable to dirve with it.
Just imagine, in worst case, if you get involved in car accident, will they look at OBC or will they be measuring your pads?

I would get and take a look at all FOUR pads and make a judgement.
They don't always wear evenly even on the same brake assembly.
And the alarm sensor is only connected to one of the four rear pads.
The others may be a lower level - you need it checked out whatever.

2mm wont take a lot of heat and so they dissipate heat even less and wear faster.
So wear accelerates during the life of a pad to some degree.
Especially if you do lots of slower town driving with gentle breaking.
