Replacement Front Bumper

Hi,

I wonder if someone could help with an issue I have with my local stealer. I had a small incident in which I damaged the front bumper. I have asked my local dealer for a quote for replacing it and they have quoted £600 for the new bumper and £400 (yes four hundred) for 10 hours labour to replace it! I understand the costs of the part, but surely it cant take 10 hours to replace a bumper, or maybe I'm missing something? Has anyone done the job themselves? is it tricky? Does it really take that long?

The car is 2006 330D M Sport in metallic silver and the stealer is my local one in Bergamo, Italy...

The bumper has to come off for a headlight swap and I'm sure people on here can do that in under 2 hours.

Or let me put it another way. I can remove the engine from an MR2 Turbo in under 5 hours in a single garage with axle stands and an engine hoist.

BMW have all the correct tools so should be able to do this in no time.

However, £400 for 10 hours is £40 an hour. Thats not bad at all. Get them to do it for £200-250 and its reasonable.

check the DIY's its not hard to do... buying a new bumper and getting it painted at a shop is alot cheaper too.

Bullshit!!!! No danger that would take 10 hours. Go back to the person who quoted you and ask them if their arse ever gets jealous of all the shit that comes out of their mouth!!!

Go to an Indy mate, at least you'll probably get a somewhat sensible quote from them.

Hahaha! Brilliant. I m gona use that line for sure! Thanks for the responses gents, i m getting them to requote with something sensible for the labour time...
If not I'll just buy the part and get a body work place to paint and fit it...

I tried my best to be lazy and it took about 25 minutes to take it off.
Another 25 to put it back, and that is when and If I am lazy.
Otherwise removal and putting it on, would take 30-45 minutes.

If they need to change the fog lights, and grills, consider that time too.
All in all 2 hours are more than enough.

Are you sure that the labour charge doesn't include the painting?

And £400 is probably less than 5 hours labour at a main dealer - still extortionate but much more realistic if they have set timescales for each part of the work.

Yeah turns out it includes the painting as well... still quite a shocking amount of money though...
