OBD Port
So...
Am I going mad or does my 2007 E92 have an OBD port and not and OBDII? I can't such a relatively new and "expensive" brand would be like that? Or am I looking in the wrong place? |

Sorry, but it is OBD II. I'm not sure why you think the connector isn't OBD II? http://www.auterraweb.com/obdiipinout.html shows the connector that's fitted and gives details of the pinout.

That is very strange. I will take a photo of it later but it clearly states OBD and I have an OBDII Ultra Guage and the plug doesn't even come close to fitting.

I must be going mad as I have looked at the OBD pin out as well and it looks nothing like that either. Is there 2 covers to remove before you can use the port or something?
It was dark at the time. Last edited by nicktyler; 02-21-2012 at 03:27 AM.. |

It says 'OBD' because it's the onboard diagnostics port - that doesn't mean it speaks the OBD protocol. It's definitely a standard port and there is only one cover. Is there any chance your gauge has a manufacturer-specific plug on the end?

I thought the point of the OBDII standard was just that. Its a standard that all manufacturers must use.
Is this not the case? |

The gauge definatly has a standard plug. I will have a closer look at it tonight and take a photo if it is not what I am expecting. It must be me because Evolve had no problem remapping it and the garage never had any problem reading the codes.
The only other option is that the garage has left some sort of adapter in it |

Yes, it is - sorry, I meant the fact it is labelled 'OBD' doesn't mean it speaks OBD (version 1), it's actually OBDII (or technically EOBD, the European version).

Yes, there are two covers.
Flip the outer trim off, then there is a blank inserted in the socket - just pull it out and all should be revealed. Or have you tried this?? My OBDII reader fits my 335 (and the 530) Mike |

I'll have a look when I get back from work and I'm pretty sure this will be the answer I was looking for. Cheers |

Depends if you just want a reader or something that can display live data as well.
I have one of these and for the money you can't go wrong. It is pretty good and came within a few days Ultra gague |

Sorry for jacking the thread but I'm having OBD issues. My case is I have a check engine light and my OBD II reader, and the fancy expensive OBD reader at my local independent BMW shop, are not able to get any codes. Both our readers keep coming up with a link error. Anyone have an idea what could be causing this? I think there's an OBD fuse, but could that really be the problem or could it be something else?
Thanks |

Vintage thread revival!!!
If you have a CEL then there will be codes stored. If your indy has a fancy, I'm guessing Autologic reader and you can't read them then the problem is going to be between the OBD socket and the ecu. Check all the connections etc and see if something is loose. |

Thanks for your response. You wouldn't happen to have any diagrams or any common places to check on these connections, would you? I don't really know where to look.. I'm not sure how hard to is to start pulling stuff out around the OBD socket. I suppose I could take a look around the fusebox. |

I dont ahve any info on that unfortunatly but someone else might do. Otherwise your indy should know where the cables for the OBD are attatched. The other option is just get in there and see what you can see. Just be careful as it could be pretty easy to make it worse.

Can someone please tell me or shoot me a pic of the color of the wires as well as the correxr pinout on a 2006 325i. I broke my obd and replaced it but i believe i mixed the wires up somehow so im going tk take them all out and start all over. This would be much help and very appreciated. Right now i have pin 4,5,6,9,14,16 but im unsure of wire color. Thanks again
