Oil puddle- middle of car??
Got my 335d out of the garage for the first time in a week and a half and i found a puddle of light brown oil, 8" x 3" on the garage floor. It was approx below the drivers seat but in the centre of the car but offset towards the drivers side (uk rhd). Any ideas before it goes to the garage??
Gearbox?? No leaks previously seen?? |

Try parking it up on a kerb and shine a torch under there you might be able to see what is wet... I can't help you with what would be there as I've not had mine long.

Sounds like transmission fluid. Have you got an auto ? Common for transmission oil to leak from sump pan gasket or from a mechanical sleeve as early as 40k miles. Had mine replaced a couple of weeks ago under warranty. Would have cost around £500 at dealers ! Good luck.

BMW hemingstone have tightened something (free of charge, i must add) and seem to think its sorted. Mechanic not there when picked up so unsure at this stage what they exactly did. Will keep eye out, but hopefully not autobox.

Is it an auto?
Mine leaked a small amount and the gearbox sump and the seal around the wiring loom were both replaced under the AUW (I think they thought it was the latter, they changed it, but it turned out to be the former so I got both done). This was happening on mine by 3 years/20k. No more since. |

Could be the oil return banjo from the turbo/cooler or similar if they tried to 'tighten' something last time.
Sgould be easy, unless the threads are shot....

Seemed to stop leaking for a week or so, so either loosened off again, or as you said a thread has gone? |

When the red boost pipe leaked it was a small dark/ black oil puddle near the front. This is a lightish brown patch under the drivers seat? Can the two be connected??
Will run it back up to the garage when get a chance, but still good to have a steer of what to look for Thought it had been sorted |

Slushbox tranny fluid (ATF) is generally but not always red.
I suppose it may be a regular synth oil in there, or its very dirty. The location might be misleading though. Oil will run around the underbody plastic panels. You are going to have to get under the car, maybe take the back plastic shield off To the above, no I was not on about a boost hose. I'm wondering where the oil drains for the turbos are. Often a fitting on the side of the sump pan or nearby. I admit the 335d is not so familiar to me. Could be a leaky sump plug, oil runs around. Pop the sump cover open and see whats occuring. |

thats interesting! FBMWSH history car so should be oem! Maybe not auto box then. I suppose it may be a regular synth oil in there, or its very dirty. The location might be misleading though. Mm.... looking at others history on this, it may well be tranny fluid as they dont use red.
Someone else might be on the money with the sleeve leaking too (mechatronic) There is a service kit and its not big money mate. here: http://forums.5series.net/topic/9603...smission-leak/ http://www.7machine.com/bmw/53231.html

Have a look at this ........
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=240526 If it's the transmission sump pan you should be able to see signs of seepage around the outer edges of the pan (as per the pictures in the link). The seepage builds up in your under-tray and deposits on your drive in larger puddles. If it's a small amount of seepage you might go weeks or months between noticing anything on your driveway. Have had this issue with a 530d and very recently with a 335i. |

Yup, think it must be sleeve/ sump pan seal.
As descibed always takes a week or so and been sitting for 2 weeks and patch returned and same sizes as described. If replacing sleeve and seal would people suggest changing all auto trans fluid (110k) or just topping up?? |
