Question Horny

Hi,

I am looking for a new horn for my 2007 320d. Today, I was on the inside lane of a motorway (as I was about to exit) and I had to slam on my brakes because some idiot was doing 40 mph in a 70 mph zone... I beeped my horn for about 10 seconds but I think he must have been deaf because he didn't move.

Anyway, I've been looking at horns. Most aftermarket horns seem to sound crap imo and don't even sound aggressive. (Stebel etc) They almost sound like moped horns.

I saw this on Youtube:

Skip 10 seconds in and you will hear a unique horn beep twice. Anyone know what kind of horn this is? I want this.

Cheers

That's only for cops, I don't think you can have it, even in the UK.
Look into Hella Supertone.

Ok, I now know they're called bullhorns. Anyone know of any decent ones that will fit an E90?

Just seen another kickass video showing one in use:

When did the London cops start using American style sirens instead of the old Eee-Ahh, Eee-Ahh, European police sirens?? That sounded like New York!

I have a Fiam air horns on my Triumph Spitfire and Alfa Spider. I am reasonably confident they can wake the dead. One piece horn and air compressor. Both the volume and the tone to wake up the average idiot driver.

Mercedes, BMW and Audi cars are used as run-of-the-mill fleet cars virtually everywhere in Europe: taxis, police cars, service cars etc.

German manufacturers specifically prohibit sales of their cars for such purposes in USA in order to maintain the superficial image of "luxury". Pure marketing for lemmings.

lol I knew the German trifecta was used as taxis in Europe but I didn't think a 3 series would be tough enough for a cop car.

your horn is not effective over 50mph...the person in front of you wouldnt be able to hear it...the sound is behind you, they wouldnt hear it till your next to them or past them

A 3 or 5 Series BMW or a C or E-Class Mercedes Benz as a police car or taxi is nothing unusual in Germany and other parts of Europe.

Are you sure about this? I know they are used a lot in Europe, but to say the liberal use of these vehicles in Europe is purely based on cheap cost sounds like an overstatement. On the German BMW and Benz's online configuration site, prices are much, much higher than similarly spec'd vehicles in the U.S. Even the base, stripped 316 is probably more expensive than the 328 in the U.S. Even if they sell as a large quantity fleet, it would still be more expensive than Vauxhall/Opel, the real run-of-the-mill fleet of vehicles.

Well we don't exactly use Chevy Aveos and Ford Focuses for the fleet. Lincoln Town Car (starts at 47k), Chevy Suburban (41k), Charger. In NYC we have Prisues, Volts and Ford Excapes. They're not exactly cheap either.

Those horns aren't illegal at all. I have one on my volkwagen, along with a hornblasters train horn kit. They are only illegal if you impersonate a police officer, or if they violate your states laws on how loud a car can be whether be exhaust, horn, stereo, etc...
