335D Autobox Oil Leak

Just picked my car up from the dealers after an oil change and they have told me that the garbox is leaking again.

Brief history, had to have a new autobox last June, went for an oil service in August, Garage noticed that some gasket/sleeve needed replacing due to a leak. This now seems to have reappeared and the garage are saying they may well need to replace the parts:

24347588725 Sleeve £9.75
07147129160 screw £0.20
24117571227 oil pan £161.67
Labour £175.50
Oil 9.5l £148.08

Now, the garage are saying that they will try the goodwill route with BMW as I have had gearbox issues etc, but they may not accept it. I personally think this is ludicrous, how can the same parts fail again 5 months later??? The leak was not picked up during a vehicle check in December so I am assuming it has only recently started.

Would i be better off trying for BMW goodwill or getting an Indy to replace it? I am loathed to spend any money on it as it will be giong back in around 6 weeks, but as it is going back to BMW I dont want any comeback from them. My BMW extended warranty is £250

Bmw warranty on repairs is 2 years for the specific repair. I would say this would be covered under the autobox replacements warranty.

ive had the red boost hose issue and had to pay 1st time round. 2nd time round was within 12 mths so they did it under the repair warranty. its gone again so im gunna get it done again under the 2nd repairs warranty....so on ans so forth.

Ive had the repair ur having on ur autobox done as a autobox service. My indy charged £390

Service guy told me that as the parts were repaired during the manufacturers warranty they do not come with the 2 year warranty. Bloody joke. It's only been on there 5 months and it's the 3rd one they are putting on there.

Ive been thinking about it tonight and if they come back and try to charge me then they can shove the 6 series i have on order up their arse and I will go elsewhere for something else.

Sounds like bollocks, the warranty is on the part not the plan.

Sorry it doesn't help your situation stating the obvious but they really try it on sometimes. I would be tempted to ring up pretending to have an issue, enquire about warranty if part fails again and see what they say if you get no where.

If I remember correctly, the oil pan on the auto box doesn't have a seal - they put a bead of sealant around it before they fit it. If the new pan isn't warped, I don't see why they can't drain the box, drop the pan, clean the sealant, reapply it and refit the pan, rather than charging to replace everything? It's got to be a problem with the way they fitted it when they changed it last time, unless your box is overheating and warping it.

they cant get the car in until 5th March as I need a loan car. My 6 should be ready a few weeks later so I am going to be really pissed off if I have to pay for any work to be done to it. Im already having to fork out on 4 wheel refurb and bumper, bonnet, respray!!!

Last thing I want now is a £500 bill on top to sort this out.

Welcome to my world Jon. Good luck mate and don't get bulshitted. As said that's bollox just cos the car is under warranty. If a part is replaced, then the 24 month warranty starts when you collect. I'd kick off big time.

It's to the side of the exhaust as it comes past the DPF just down from the front axle. It is covered by a plastic tray. I will take a photo of it tomorrow of I can.

Have you been having any issues with your gear changes etc? Having spoke to a tech he said that It's the mechatronic sleeve or something like that and a gasket which will leak if it has not benefitted correctly. Generally it is only a small leak and not much oil is lost, just tends to create staining and a light film on the under tray.

No issues with gear change, although i would say in ds mode you notice the change at lower speeds.
Took it to the garage and they have tighten something and seem to think this will sort it. Not sure if g/box or engine as mechanic not there when i picked up but it was FOC.

I will check with him. My leak sounds bigger though , but hopefully sorted now.

There is some truth to parts replaced under warranty not benefitting from the full OEM parts warranty period.....but I wouldn't expect such a repair only 6mths or so since a major unit replacement.
