Would Euro Intake void Warranty?

I'm in the process of maybe buying Euro intake! Would the dealer have issues with it? I am still under warranty.... Any thoughts?

The dealer will never notice. Even if they do notice, they won't care unless you are a difficult customer that they want to: a) screw over, b) drive away or c) both a & b.

That would be the least of your worries. When my car was under warranty I brought it in with an intake, aftermarket headlights, secondary cat delete, and exhaust. I had no trouble and they didn't even say anything to me lol. But then of course I guess it's up to your dealer.

It is to my understanding that a dealer can not refuse warranty work due to aftermarket parts. The only way they can refuse the coverage is if the part in question directly caused the problem they are looking into fixing. You should google your question.

Why would they have a problem with an OEM part?

Because it's an OEM part that is not designed to work with our cars in North America or to meet our emissions requirements.

Same way our dealerships can't import the euro-white tail lights anymore for other BMW's. Doesn't meet our regulations, so its blocked.

You might have issues passing smog check at least in some states like CA.... if the smog check person identifies it as an aftermarket part that has no CARB certification, you'll fail.

Emissions in PA is test run with equip plugged into OBD port - as long as there are no emissions codes set - car passes. I take my car to independant garage for inspection/emissions - has never failed to pass regardless of the mods I have done.

Yes, there is supposedly a 'visual' test (which no one ever does) and at any rate - they sure aren't going to know that the Euro intake is not the US part, nor would they know that there is no charcoal filter inside of it. They don't go tearing your car apart during the visual inspection...

The question was will it 'void my warranty' not 'will it pass emissions' anyway. Dealer has had my car in for service many times with the Euro intake installed. They, above all people know EXACTLY what it is - and they don't care.

I would think they would take offense to an AFE Intake waaaaayyyy before they would have a problem with a BMW part. Main difference is Euro intake uses a cone style filter & does not have the charcoal filter - that filter is only in place to eliminate gasoline vapors from travelling out from the engine & into the atmosphere. Has no effect on how the car runs (except that it breathes easier without it)

On another note, the only thing I can think of that would give problems is if you install a K&N style oiled filter, oil it up too much, excess oil coats the MAF - car runs improperly.

Then they would have an excuse to not cover the labor to clean your MAF to get the car running properly again.

However, this would be the case for any oiled style filter you install - even the US intake.

You just need to oil your filter properly, and/or use the factory paper filter.
