LCI Headlight Retro

Hi guys,

So in the process of selling some bits and bobs around the house and will be using the money to buy some LCI halogens in abut a week or two. Will be asking if people have those for sale in due course!

So, after googling a bit, I understand the process of swapping to be pretty simple?

*Take off bumper.
*Unplug and remove old headlights.
*Install new headlights and plug in.
*Replace bumper.
*Get headlights aligned.

Questions:

1. Is it really this simple? Am I missing anything?

2. Do the angel eyes on the LCI lights fade in and out as per the old sidelights on my pre-LCI? Reason I ask, I had an LCI courtesy car and the angels just 'came on' when unlocking, rather than fading on as the sidelights do on my car.

3. Is there any way of having the angel eyes on all the time, much like DRLs? I would want to be able to do this while leaving the headlight switch on auto. I'd imagine this would be something that might be codeable?

4. Has anyone found if there's a way of upgrading the LCI angel eye bulbs? Are they H7s? If so, I assume I could just put some Philips Extreme Vision in?

5. Anyone got any for sale in a couple of weeks?!

I recently fitted some to mine straight swap. I can't make my lights do anything when I lock unlock etc. I can confirm they are a straight swap.

Did your old sidelights fade in when you unlocked the car? Do you have auto lights? Might be something to do with that as mine only fade on when it's dark.

No mate no auto lights. As for the actual angel eyes they are bulbs and led seems to be a popular mod. I paid 40 quid for my LEDs to give the rings a brighter white look.

Heh, I think I'm one of the few people in the world that prefers the yellow look of halogen angel eyes! That said, they do look good on the new coupes and X5s etc.

Each to their own mate. Few quid saved on that then. I paid £300 for my lights inc delivery from a nice chap on this forum.

Aye, that's what I'm looking at spending too. I want a decent set with no broken lugs. Seems that there's loads with broken lugs out there, is it really that hard to remove these things without ruining them?

Handy enough removed. I think they may be easy broke as part of pedestrian safety or the like. I think you can actually buy repair kits for the lugs. Mine were all intact though you would probably get away with one being broken.

In regards to the Halogen LCI headlights with the Angel Eyes on, on a car with non Auto headlights I've found if you leave the lights on the dipped position on the dial, when you unlock the car the Angels will light up.

It does this also if you have Auto Lights and leave it in the Auto position, however the DRL function on Halogen's sadly seem to be only making the dipped lights stay on 24/7 whether it's day or night, unless someone has found a way round it?

Yeah I'm hoping it might be codeable. I'll ask my Indy when I get the lights aligned. Need to get on with buying the lights now!

If you do find someone who has done it then let us know as to date I don't think you can.

In regards to replacing them with a more white light, there was a thread here from Juiced Tuning about a set of LED lights, cannot remember the fitments of them though however the LUX Company is coming out with a set soon specifically for LCI Halogen headlights and no doubt they will be stunning albeit with a hefty price tag.

This thread,

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=499957

Talks about using NCS expert to code the AEs as DRL. It looks like if you have a NFRM module then it can be done, but one thing I wonder is if this only applies to pre LCI xenons. I can't find any reference to it working (or even beng tried with) LCI Halogens. Seems you simply change the VERHALTEN_DRL_TFL value from drl_h (high beams?) to drl_s (sidelights?).

Does anyone have LCI Halogens and NCS Expert and want to try it?
