Haggling
Hey everyone,
I have a question. Let's say I build my own F30 can I haggle on the price? Like the one I built comes out to $53,000. How much can I get the dealer to reduce it? Also what are some techniques to haggle the price? I know how to haggle somewhat on a used car because you can find some problems and such, but I don't know how it works for a brand new car. Thanks |

I think anything from 1000-2000 off would be reasonable if your just walking off the street. Some people are only getting 500-1000 off, so it really depends on the dealer. European delivery is another option(but you have to fly to europe for like a week)takes like 8% off the car.

If you are a USAA customer you should be able to call a few approved USAA dealers and get some amount over invoice. I tricked out a 335i ordered in early January and got 500 over invoice (about 3500 off from MSRP). Granted I am a return customer to that particular dealer and there are 4 other dealers within a 30 minute drive, but still... It's possible.
Don't be a chump and take MSRP or something lame like 500-1000 off. |

Don't negotiate it in person. Request a quote for the model/options you want online. Use Zag or Edmunds to request a quote and to find out what others are paying. $1k over invoice is the most you should ever pay. Online, the dealer hasn't wasted all day with you and can make a quick grand, plus holdback, dealer incentive and financing points--agree online to the price, show up, sign the paperwork and you're out in a hour.

Funny you should mention Edmunds. I optioned a 328i on their site, $44,345 was the MSRP, $40,805 was the Invoice, but according to Edmunds the true market value is $42,815. The options I selected were Sport Line, Premium Package, Sport Auto, Heated Front Seats, Xenons, Metallic Paint.
I'm interested to know how does Edmunds know the true market value already? |

I thought I was going to get 1k over msrp but whenever I get to the dealership I have got the old, we cant do that trick. After 2-3 days of negotiating I am only getting 2% off. Probably end up with 1500 off but they arent moving much at all.

Okay let me follow up. Many dealerships have deals with USAA, AAA, Costco, etc. I agree with the comment above, do this over the phone or Internet. Call or email and explain that you are a _______ member and are looking for best offers on a custom built car. You should get plenty of takers at no more than $1000 over invoice. If you don't, call another dealer.

Thanks. It's good to know that $1k over invoice is the most anyone should pay. I checked on Zag and with the options I need the invoice comes out to $50k and MSRP comes out to $54k. So I would know to shoot for $51k.
EDIT: This was a good discussion. Please continue to throw out more ideas. Thanks again. |

Yep, but I'm not ready to buy yet. I still have to get my money's worth in my current car. It pains me to miss out on this car. By the time I buy this it will probably be a common site on the road.

Dealerships wont be in a hurry to sell these cars on the cheap just yet. Prices initially will be closer to MSRP than to Invoice, especially for those who are not existing BMW customers like myself.
I'm interested to know what is the APR for a good credit on these F30s and what is a good credit to BMW? 3.9% over 60 months? |

Since we're on the subject of haggling, I am wondering about something myself.
We have a 328i on order (it's currently awaiting transport to port of exit) and is due to arrive somewhere in April. Now, my wife is thinking about getting another F30, one for herself. Knowing her taste she will either go for the sport line or the m-sport (so I don't think she will make her decision until the m-sport price and everything has been released) but let's say she goes for a F30 with a MSRP of about $50,000. Given that the dealer here in Hawaii is the only dealer (we have a dealership on every island but it's all the same owner), what do you think we could haggle on, mostly because it will be the 2nd F30 that will be ordered by us in a short time (and, of course, since we've been loyal customers since 2004)? Oh before I forget, dunno if this matters but it will either be financed or be paid in cash (most likely the latter). |

I guess you could try and make them feel all warm towards you because this is your second purchase from them, but given you don't have any other real options, it is hard to say how successful this will be.

The other option would be to get one from the mainland but problem there would be the 1500 USD in shipping, so if we're able to haggle some, it might still end up to almost no profit haha. |
