Room In Your 3 Series
Hey Everyone,
New BMW owner here and I have a question about room in this car. I have a BMW 335i XDrive Coupe. I love it but I only have about 1 inches of headroom in this car. What would be considered a safe amount of headroom in a car? I have a sunroof and I know that takes away 2 inches. How much headroom do you have in your 3 series? Does anyone know how to increase headroom and what the costs would be like? Could you just take away some of the foam out of the seat? What would the pricing be like for getting a new roof without a sunroof? I would imagine it would be very expensive. Thanks, BMW335icoupe |

Do you have your seats lowered all the way down? I have a very long torso myself but I have plenty of headroom once I have the seats lowered. However it makes it harder to get out of the car.

For the roll over test, a car has to be able to hold 4x its weight before it compresses 5". So you could say close to 5" is the safe amount in the most extreme scenario. In Europe the 3er is a full size car

I am 6ft tall, the car has a panoramic sunroof and I still hae about 3" of head room, I do have the seat fully down but find the driving position quite relaxing.
a lot depends on the type of seats and wether you drive a lci or a pre Lci as I am told the seat frames are slightly different, pre Lci can be lowered farther.

I've got sport seats also. I consider plenty of headroom by not having to worry about it or my head coming close to touching it. Also have the sunroof too. Just how tall are you?

I'm 6'4" and have a long torso. I chose the 1-2", although it's more like 1/2-1". Coming from a mazda 3 wherein I was always scraping the ceiling, I am quite happy and don't have to make any compromises in my seating position.

6'2" and I have about two inches of headroom. Though I need to open the sunroof shade with my helmet on.
