X5 vs X6
Hey guys,
I want to buy my Mum a new car before she gets back from overseas. She currently has an X1 (she wanted a small car), but I'm going to trade it in and get her the X5 or X6 whether she likes it or not. I figured that you guys are pretty knowledgable when it comes to BMWs so any input would be appreciated. What are the pros/cons of the X5/X6. I feel that the X6 is really a love hate car, whereas, the X5 seems to be loved by all (but is more common). Which one should I opt for and why? Thanks! Mr GTR. |

The X5 is a damn good car and shits on X6's resale. M-Sports is less common then the non M-sports, great car to drive everyday. "IM DA BOSS!"

So coming from an X1 I reckon the X3 seems like a good choice - its quite a handsome car these days, reasonably spacious (95% of the size of first gen X5) and a quality interior. X5 might be too big and bulky for her... everything from ingress/egress, the heavy doors, the width of the car, she might not like it... |

I think X3 still looks fugly especially the E36 front headlights. Personally if you could afford to buy your mum a decent car, I'd go for X6 purely because X5 are too common on the road and look kinda dated.

If less space v/s the X5 and finances is not an issue, I would say go the X6, the looks have started to grow on many compared to when it initially came out!

Yeah the X6 looks much better imo.
The X5 is also a nice looking vehicle, but there are eleventy billion of them. I see 10 a day minimum, if not more. That said, the X5 has the extra seat........that might be a consideration. And of course, there is price. The X5s seem to be cheaper new, on average. All the decent new X6s are 110-120k plus minimum.......whereas the X5 LCIs start early to mid 90s. I'm going to a few dealers tomorrow and will see what they have in stock. So far, I'm open to both the X5/X6 but have reaffirmed my dislike for the X3 lol, I just don't like the look, especially the front. |

The new X6 has 5 seats, so the X6 is the firm favourite now, assuming I can bring the price down to an extent.
Only conditions I have, it must be black or white and must have a sunroof. Help me out boys. This one looks absoultely stunning, but I wonder how much I can bring the price down: http://www.carsales.com.au/demo/deta...x&sort=default |

Oooo x4 haven't heard of that - looks good.
I actually like the look of the x6 compared to the x5, both being city SUVs. Think the x5 may have more functional cargo space. However, having sat in an X6, they are quite long and big. Will your mum be comfortable driving around in such a large car? parking etc. The X5 may be a tad better. It also has better visibility. Also have you thought about her being able to get in and out easily daily without risking falling over and breaking something? The Evoque as bmroxm5 suggested is definitely a good suggestion. Thats one hot looking SUV. They did trade off looks for visibility big time though. The blind spot is huge and the rear window is narrow - but people can just get out of her way when she's rolling |

Haha, my mum isn't that old! She isn't yet 50. She will manage fine.
Signed the papers for a black X6 today with black rims (it has silver rims atm but they will be swapped around, as I requested it), identical to the one I linked to above, except the interior is oyster as opposed to black and I like a contrasting interior (which will be a mission to keep clean, but it looks amazing against the rest of the black). It is a MY2011.5, so it has some updates, including 5 seats which is a bonus. Of course this is my Mum's car, but I guess I can drive it when the weather is too feral to have the roof down on the 335. |
