Microfiber Towels....wash and reuse?

This might be a dumb question, but do you guys wash and reuse your microfiber towels used for washing the car?

TIA

I would like to know also, do you guys wash them separately by color, drying, washing, waxing, or simply throw all microfibers together and wash?

Definitively a quality towel is not a use-once and dispose of type product

I am a little skeptical about using the washer/dryer for a cycle of my regular precious clothes as I do not want anything that was used for the microfiber towels, vinegar etc., to adversly effect my regular loads...should be fine or would you run an empty cycle of hot water before running a normal load??

When working on the car, I use the MF products until they become soiled or have build up, then grab a clean one to continue work. It's always good to have more towels, applicators, etc than you really need.

I use the Detailer's Pro Series Microfiber Cleaner, cold water, extra long soak, extra spin, and toss all the stuff into one load. I then let air dry on a rack. Seems to work pretty well, though some tough stains don't come off.

I use hot water to get better cleaning of the MF. Cold water doesnt seem like it would be ideal for the chemical breakdown.

If you check out the Microfiber Care section of our detailing guide there are step by step washing instructions along with helpful tips for optimal care. If you need any cleaning products for your microfiber towels we have 25% off our entire Microfiber section through 1/17 EST. Let me know if you have any questions I'd be happy to help.

I wash and reuse all of my MF towels after every wash, cleaning, or detail. I’m sure most members do this as well and it’s perfectly fine.

A little trick to help start off the cleaning process is to have a couple buckets on the side and fill them up with warm water and some MF detergent. After using each MF towel, just toss them in the bucket so they start to soak and release the contaminants while you finish washing, cleaning, or detailing your car.

Most people who separate their MF towels in groups do so by interior, exterior, and wheels or paint safe and non-paint safe. I go a little bit further and separate them into smaller groups. For the paint safe towels I’ll divide them into two groups, water soluble (polish, cleaners) and non-water soluble (wax, sealant, qd). The drying towels get washed seperately with almost no detergent. The general interior towels and the towels used for the wheels get washed seperately as well, but obviously with detergent.

P.S. – I’d recommend running your washer twice, once with vinegar and once with bleach, to clean the inside before using it to wash your MF towels.

Hey Greg - what's best practice for washing machine water temp? Didn't see that on the DI website article. Thanks...

• Waxes and polymer sealants are not water soluble; they dry and adhere to the towels fibres. Cold water will simply allow them to remain in a solid state and not completely wash off.
• Hot water, however, allows them to soften and loosen from the threads and allows the detergent to act as it should and lift the contaminants from the fabric. Use medium heat, 104 .oF (40.o C) and add 1-2 ounces to a standard size (8 gallon) load, for larger loads or heavily soiled laundry
• Use a liquid detergent (or a speciality product like Micro-Restore high efficiency (HE) washer safe) without softener, bleach, whiteners.

Warm to hot water is a big help, as they help the surface area expand which helps with the release of contaminants and other particles collected by the towel.
