I had a V1 radar a couple years ago and it was good and all except the fact that everytime I went into a plaza or a like stores with those magnet sensors at the door. The radar would go off like crazy. They might have changed it now but I prefer the escort 9500ix that I use everyday. Thats just my opinion but things could be different now.

Yea I have one now too it's some cobra, I only put it up when I am on the highway otherwise around where I live it's always going off so I know what you mean. I just think it's time for something better. A lot of ppl who have one say V1 or nothing, but I like to have an open mind

You can turn-off detection of the particular bands on a V1. I turned off X band on mine and LOVE it. On normal trips up and down the freeway the V1 is nice and quiet unless a real bogey is shooting at you with K. Which is what CHP use mostly if not exclusively. I also love the counter and directional signals. All of which I have found to be accurate.
http://www.valentine1.com/Lab/TechReport3.asp I've noticed that the temporary radar speed signs must us X band, as they don't trip my V1 anymore. But there is a permanent radar speed sign, which must be using K band. Do this at your own risk of course. Another interesting link on bands: http://www.radarbusters.com/detectorsfaqsarticle.cfm |

thanks for the info man, I am hoping that someone is willing to let it go, otherwise when spring time comes back around I will probably just order a new one, figured if I waited so long I might as well buy brand new lol Right now with temperatures so low I haven't had to much time in the 1M, so there isn't a big urgency for the radar at the moment.... besides its January, have to pay off those holiday bills

It works very well and the directional arrows are a plus. If you have perpetual construction zones with speed signs, or go through EZPass a lot, the more advanced 9500 models might be better for you - you can tell it to ignore certain signals in the future (recorded by GPS position and frequency I believe). It gets old muting the V1 every morning/evening when I hit the tolls and various construction zones. (I drive a lot.)
Also, Audi came up with the brilliant (sarcasm) idea to make their blind spot detection use Ka band radar. Enjoy being anywhere near one of them and the radar detector lighting up like a Christmas tree the whole time. You still have to be smart with it. Sniff out how the police work your way. Do they use instant-on? If so, don't be the first one to come up on them... or be prepared to pull over. Lidar? Good luck! (It'll scare the shit out of you, too). Do they leave the gun on all the time and just hang it out the window? Cake walk, you'll spot them from a mile away. Learn the patterns of signal recognition as well, know the usual spots, etc.

I used to have a V1. It does go off quite a bit but better than not going off right?
Once you have it for a while you'll know which warning to be wary of and which are false. Saved me quite a bit... QUITE a bit. There have been many times where I slowed because of the radar, and I watched other cars get pulled over since they had no idea. Looking to purchase another one soon, but also looking to do some research on different models as well

V1 hands down. I bought my first in 2000 and liked it so much i bought another so now i have 2 and they both work great and have paid for themselves many times over. Once you have the arrows you will never go back to anything else.

If you contact Valentine1 a lot of times they have units that have been returned/refurbished, etc for a discount versus a new one. Each one has been thoroughly tested and usually they are just ones where someone purchased one for a trip and returned it after. I purchased mine as such and have had it since 2004. Works great and has never had an issue.

I have been using the 9500ix in my car for a couple years now. Just this week I picked up a V1 for my wife's car. I drive hers primarily to work and back to keep miles off my car. I can account the arrows are definitely nice but the 9500ix was so nice b/c it literally was completely silent unless there was a real threat. I'm still debating which one to hardwire in my car but after a week, I think I'll keep the 9500ix in mine and the V1 in hers. Both are awesome in their own way though.
*edit* I found mine on Craigslist in Chicago for $300 and it has all the latest updates so it was purchased pretty recently.

Depending on where you live and what kind of driving you do, you might be better off spending the money on a laser shifter and a less expensive radar detector. Most of the LEOs in my neck of the woods have shifted to laser, and V1 won't do you any good unless the officer's aim is bad. By the time the detector alerts, it's usually too late.
