Removing engine cover insulation?

Hi guys,

has anyone removed the engine cover insulation, and then re-installed the cover? I believe that BMW engineered the airflow in the engine bay, relying on the cover being on the engine, so I don't want to remove it, but I wouldn't mind removing the insulation which is apparently there...

Anyone done this? Anyone have pics of what the engine cover looks like from underneath?

Thanks

The insulation is there for noise reduction. Those injectors are quite noisy. You can run with or without it. The only reasons you need to leave the cover on a street car is for noise and water resistance. Don't get water down into the valley in the middle of the valve cover. That may happen when it rains or when you wash your engine compartment. You guys do occasionally wash your engine compartment, don't you?

It might also protect the paint on the top side of the hood from heat...
