programming spare fob

I have a 2005 116i bmw. Is there a way of adding a spare fob just incase anything happens to the only key I have. My middle mirror does not have those buttons that the younger models have...(I do not have a manual )

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Regards
Mo

You should have two key fobs. But if your missing one, yes a dealer can order you a new one. They are not cheap at around $400 USd for one. You will also need to show you own the car, so bring the reg papers with you.

I have a similar problem.
Prvious owner lost the second key. Turned house upside down but still no luck.
BMW Australia says the only option is to order one from Munich. Pay in advance and $829 WTF???? I can't afford that after re-registering interstate, stamp duty and insurance all at once....
There are several on eBay (including Chinese replicas!) at very reasonable prices, but how to code them to the chassis - as BMW says they have to be?
The metal key inside is available at a reasonable cost as a blank also and the local locksmith says he can duplicate mine into a blank.
If I understand it correctly, once the key is recognised by the car, then all the other data (maintenance etc) gets put in automatically in use.
Please correct any of my misconceptions.
Cheers,
Joe

I have now ordered a new blank fob and key from http://originalkeyless.com/ and it's on its way here.
Can anyone point me to a locksmith or other expert in Victoria Australia (I'm in Bendigo, Victoria) who can clone my only original key so the car recognises it?
Cheers,
Joe

I would even love to see that just dealers could do that...
