Need a new printer... Inkjet or Laser ?
As per title.
Dont do "loads" of printing (600 sheets per year) & my current inkjet still works fine but would like somethining that could scan photos & docs. The odd photo to be printed too. If it's a laser will it have just enough ink to print 50 sheets before I am buying new toners etc ? Would like a laser but dont want to be stuck buying toners for silly money. Any thoughts ? Thanks in advance. |

If it's 600 pages per year the toner that comes with your laser printer would last you that year so ink replacement isn't a real issue whatever you buy.
A Canon MG6150 costs under £100 and scans and photo-copies as well. The equivalent Epson (I forget the model number) has slightly more vibrant colour to it with photos but a lower resolution (a matter of preference really). The Epson has a slightly better scanning ability but it's black text is not nearly as good as the Canon for those formal letters. The Epson is also faster than the Canon in most things although the Canon is much quieter and given the amount of use you indicate, means that the relatively slower speed should not be that important. IIRC, both the printers will print direct on a suitable CD, both have memory card readers, connection via USB, ethernet, or wifi and a small colour screen. To get a similarly equipped laser - especially on photo printing, would require a very much larger capital outlay. |

If you print any black and white text for work or official purposes then it has to be laser. No inkjet can ever produce accurate text the way a laser can.
I would avoid any 'all in one' type devices, in my experience they do both jobs badly. A flatbed scanner for £50 will do a much better job than anything bolted on the top of a printer. I have a Samsung colour laser - the cartridges that came with it were only good for about 200 pages. Fortunately I can expense the toner to my work - costs over £100 to change them all - but they do last for a good while. The quality in both colour and b&w is truly astonishing given the size and the fact the printer was only about £80 I think |

I was going to get the cannon MG160 cos at currys n PC world they are only £80 where as some places want £160+ but neither have them in stock & wont let you pre order one & now the comment from Chris has turned me back to a laser....
I think a laser with the ability to be able to top up with ink would be the best idea overall. |
