Serious BMS concern.

All the pro's and con's about the BMS Powerbox aside, I have a serious concern I haven't seen answered.

My 330i now has 81k miles on it. If I were to install a PBX, am I just asking for trouble?
My car is a daily driver, and rakes up 75 miles a day, so I can't be opening the door to engine problems. But I do like the idea of a remap.

I understand that a peppier car will be driven harder, but I guess it all depends on how heavy your foot is.

So basically, does it mean accelerated wear and tear on the engine and accessories, or is it really a "can't hurt nuthin'" toy?

Thanks!

No need for concern. My commute is 65 miles per day, and I had been running the pbx for nearly 2 years without any issues whatsoever. it doesn't cause any wear and tear on your engine, it only really does anything (add a bit of fuel) when you put your foot to the floor. Other than that, it's mostly transparent, except for the throttle mapping which you will feel all the time (if you choose to run that part of it).

and if it REALLY does concern you, you can run the pbx in throttle mode only without the tune.

If anything with the richer air/fuel ratio targets at wide open throttle it's even safer for higher mileage cars.

I am also on the fence and have been reading many of the BMS PBX threads. I have a early build 325i with 67k on the clock.

The AA tune remaps the throttle too and since the PBX is a piggy back, that would probably make the car almost undrivable. Like you tap the pedal and it's like you're flooring it lol.

my car has 67k when i installed my BMS PBX. No issues at all. I did the install myself. Took about 2 hours and I drive 50 mile commute daily. The difference is amazing.

One morning I was on the far left lane and I was so into listening to the radio, I almost missed my exit. I saw a couple of huge openings up ahead and my exit was 1/2 mile away. I usually downshift and pass, but instead I just push the pedal harder. Not flooring it yet. I ended it making it safely to the far right lane. I look down on my speedometer and realized I was going roughly 105 mph. I have never accidently drove over 100 mph. Ever. But with the BMS, the car just opens up.

Ahhh I'm so tired of the PBX threads! Just buy one, there is virtually NO REASON not to. If you don't want it, just sell it to someone else. There is ALWAYS someone else. I've gotten over a dozen offers for mine, I'm just too lazy to ship it out right now.

I still have my reservations. I saw in another thread how you're supposed to stick the contacts removed from the car's connector into a floating contact on the PBX.

That's just asking for trouble IMHO.

Anybody have any close ups of the contacts?

Lol no problems with a pbx, it just remaps your fuel theres no danger. Its not like a jb4 or somethung that adds boost amd actually increases power. This is just to make the car peppier, there will be no issues.
Imo get it new, why risk having problems down the road due tk a defective unit..there cheap anyways.

... seriously? I'm ordering mine right now, I did not know this. I thought it was a PNP harness with a few extra wires to tap & shrink wrap.

I hope this box doesn't turn out to be some kind of hack-box.

bump for a close up pic of the contacts.

The install is completely clean and a blind monkey could do it.

If you're going to spend $200 on the PBX, you might as well spend the extra $200 and get a proper tune.

AA FTW.

2nd pic in this thread, you can see the contact with wire removed from the car's computer connector plugged and taped to a pigtail on the PBX wire.
