Very Strange. Car Shut Down Twice at High RPM
I do a lot of highway traveling and every once in awhile when traffic is open and no cops, I like to do a small 65-90 romp to help with my boredom.
Now on the way out to my destination, when the car got up to about 6k rpms, the car just shut down. I still had full electrical power, steering was fine and so were the brakes. The engine just simply turned off. So I coast off the road with only the standard check engine light on. I turn the car off and then turn it back on and sure enough, no check engine light, and the car fired up without a hiccup. I pulled out my laptop and there were no codes showing up. Now on my way back from work yesterday, once again when traffic was open, I decided to try the same thing. Now mind you, earlier in the trip after the first incident, I did other runs similar to the one that turned the engine off. But once again, the same thing happened, except this time when I tried cranking it over, it took 3 times. Drove the car home the last 100 miles and not one issue. Pulled out the laptop to check and did a log and everything seemed perfect. I have full bolt ons with 93 octane and stage 3 rev 2.5 maps. ANY HELP and yes I technically still have a warranty and this is pretty much the first major problem I've had with the car. |

similar issues were normally related to HPFP failure. Turn Can clear OFF and Check the codes.

I've been racking my brain with what can be so intermittent and I can't think of anything else. I thought hpfp would be long cranks, rough idle and limp mode. Either way, thanks for the input. |

Like Enrita suggested you need to see what codes are popping up. I had a simalar issue, but mine was at low RPM's it would just shutoff/stall. Drove from Tampa to Orlando and as soon as I got off the highway and stopped at stop light the car shutoff/stalled. I was getting codes 2AAF, 29F2, and 29F3 which ended up being a faulty fuel temperature/pressure sensor.

I had one HPFP go on me and I never had one long crank with it. When that one went on me, I pulled my tune and cleared everything. Driving around normally, nothing would happen...no problems. Putting load on it exactly like you mentioned (60-90) and it would trigger it on the spot. My SA said the pump was sucking in pure air and that the seals were shot. I would remove the tune, go WOT under load and see what happens. |
