I'm having these symptoms please help!!

Hi,
Recently I've had some bad luck with my car, it has a rough idle, it just now started hesitating on start ups, and twice when I press the gas and put it in s mode, it automatically turned on the SES light and later the limpmode. Last seek I was driving my car fast around 60 mph around a lonely road with lots of curves, out of nowhere the car starting shaking and turned on the SES light, the shaking was so bad I thought I had a flat tire! What is all this ? Could it be the dreaded hpfp? Also this seems random to me but a.c is not working as well as before these symptoms the ac is a lot warmer!

Thanks for the quick response! Did it drive normally afterwards , I mean after the symptoms? If it's the hpfp I called bmwusa and they have like an extended warranty on the hpfp, I also saw an article that someone post that they did a recall in 2010. I'm going to see if it's covered through the BMW warranty, even though my warranty is up!

The warranty on the HPFP was extended to 120K miles and I believe 6 years (someone correct me if I am wrong on the 2 year extention). So you should be fine unless you're over 120K miles.

It's the fuel pump. Take it in, have it changed out, and you'll be back in action.

hpfp would be first guess, but it could also be spark plugs, coils, or injectors. without the codes from the ecu, we'd all be guessing. get a bavarian tech cable or borrow someone's and read the codes

Rule of thumb on start-up:

Fuel Pump = Long Cranks
Injectors, Coils, Plugs = Rough Idle

Sounds to me like a HPFP my friend, go get a new one. Which model # are you on now?

Model number??
I have a e92 335.

Thanks guys, sounds like it's the hpfp. I'm going to take it to the dealer next Tuesday. (work and finals this week). I'll take it to the dealership to see if they fix it under the 120k warranty. Hopefully I won't have to pay anything. I really appreciate the help! I'll let you guys know what happens!

hey guys,
unfortunately it was not the HPFP, it was an ignition coil! :-(. Bmw dealership wanted to charge me 200 for the coil and install. I took it to a good bmw mechanic near me charged me 95. Saw how to do it online. Im going to do it myself next time replace the remaining 5. I heard from the SA at bmw, the mechanic and researching online that most likely if one goes bad the others will go bad eventually. I found a website that sells the ignition coils for 30 each, and im going to replace the spark plugs, looking at 60k miles soon.
