Tire Insurance??
I'm in the process of signing the papers on my lease for a BMW 328i, and while I was talking with the Office Manager, he offered me tire insurance for an extra $6.99 a month CDN that will cover any flats.
He highly reccommended it as he said a flat would cost me approximately $500CDN to replace per tire. Not sure if it's worth the extra money, so help me out! Did anyone else buy tire insurance?? |

if your planning on sticking to oem wheels/tires... might as well buy it... the insurance has been good for me... on several occasions.

Wow! This sounds good. I will be sure to opt for it.
Is the policy basically no-frills??? I hate when I get the run around with dealers to get something done. |

Tire and Wheel Warranty
I was at the dealer and they offer me the plan for $695. I went online and found the same 5 year coverage for $299 at www.DealerServicesOnline.com

I bought the tire issurance the day I got my E90 in North Van. The sales recommended it and I believe that a flat tire does cost a lot to replace. It really sounded secure at that moment.
If you will not do any mods on your wheels, a 6.99 extra per month is reasonable. and ask yourself, how often have you run a flat tire?

what does the Tire and Wheel coverage actually cover? I understand bent rims, but does it actually cover nails and punctures too? Just wondering if there are any gotcha's involved where you get told - "No, the wheel just fell off and that's not covered... , It's still a wheel..."

depends on what comany its with...if it's with NSD, they will cover potholes, rocks, wood debris, plastic or composite scraps or any item causing tire, wheel or rimdamage beyond normal wear and tear. Their coverage will include repair or replacement of any wheel and tire including mounting, balancing and taxes.

It should be worth it if you are sticking to everything OEM, wheels and tires.

Check out theautoclub.com. As long as you aren't in CA, their policy is very competitive. They offer tire only coverage or tire and wheel coverage.

Wow, theautoclub.com is $28/year for tire & wheel warranty in Illinois. Seems too good to be true - does anyone have experience dealing with them for a claim?

In order to up the Coverage Amount per Claim, you'll be paying more than $28 a year to cover both tire and rims... But this definately makes me wonder about the Tire and wheel warranty offered at the dealer.. It'll be a few days before I find out, but I'll let you know when I get a copy of the paperwork.

I don't see any option to increase the coverage amount there... they just give me $20 for repair and $350 for replacement. Please let me know when you get the paperwork; they don't seem to have any contract details on their site (which is kinda sketchy).

Agreed. Has anyone called them directly and spoken to someone about the claim process?

This insurance is certainly recommended but in a previous thread there were some BMW owners that said beware of policies outside the dealership. Reason being when they actually had a claim, they had to pay first and then get reimbursed...not that way with the dealer's policy.

I bought it for my 335i. Needed it only 2 months later. Un-repairable puncture in tire...tire/labor/fees....all Covered.....over $500 bucks for one run-flat replacement....WELL WORTH IT....My coverage also covers any wheel on car damaged for any reason....
Only disclaimer on tires: must still have 3/32nds tread remaining to be covered...coverage does then extend to new set of tires as well.... Here's hoping I get puncture on all 4 tires every 20k miles ;-) |

just got the tire and wheel brochure from the bmw shop... it covers punctures and all... myfirstbmw335i is accurate - 3/32nds tread required...
here some more of the details: 5 year (looks like they have a 3 year too) tire\wheel\mounting and balancing\valve stems\labor\tax covered... 24 hr roadside assistance pre-authorization required for service damage from uneven lanes and metal plates on roads are not covered... neither are curb hits I'm kinda inclined to do the dealer tire and wheel contract - a tab more expensive of course, but hopefully not a lot of hastle... Anyone out there use the ROADS-INTIRE service and have any claims experience??? |
