2006 325i misfiring

Hello All,

When I turned on my car this morning, it started shaking at idle and then it threw a check engine light. Also there was some rotten egg smell.

I went to Autzone and scanned for codes and I got the following:

P0302 - Cylinder # 2 Misfire
P1017 - Valvetronic eccentric shaft sensor

I'm really hoping it's just a bad coil. The car isn't stalling. It just runs a little rough with some decrease in power. Would a misfire from a bad coil trigger the Valvetronic eccentric shaft sensor code?

Thanks

I read on another thread about some guy ruining his engine due to the eccentric shaft sensor failing. I hope youre not dealing with the same thing but pretty sure he had to source a whole new engine.

Good luck though hope its minor

Get the sensor checked out. If it's going bad it may not be symptomatic yet but it might still be defective. I don't think the sensor is all that expensive.

Edit: Actually the sensor is a little pricy. It's just over $300. But if the sensor is bad it can lead to several thousand dollars in damage.

I got mine done. Sensor is 350. Then u have to get gasket and screws. The dealership will kill you with labor. Because this sensor in inside the engine.

yea, I've been doing some research and it seems like the eccentric shaft sensor is a common problem on many BMW models.

How many hours of labor were you charged? It sucks because I had the valve cover gasket and screws done a few months ago for about $500 and they will have to be re-done.
