Weird Engine Issue ( Update: Misfires )

Hey Guys,

need your help with a weird engine issue that I'm having.

mods:

Procede v4
Ur Cp/ hks bov
ms Dp

Today I was driving on Procede Map 2 default settings, and I hit WOT and around 3/4 rpm my engine bucked and CEL came on and is stayed on. Now the Rpms raise relatively slow and the car makes a kind of " spitting " noise like its chocking. I also listened to the engine once I got to work and it sounds like something is moving around kinda, knocking. I've already spoke to Robert at vishnu and he said to hook my CPU up to the car and pull the codes which I'll do after I get off of work but I'm going to have to leave the car here for fear of breaking something further trying to drive home. So far I have a few ideas what it could be:

- Engine oil level may be low as the CEL light came on while I was switching lanes at WOT and the sound it's making is similar to a car I've heard previously that had the engine oil low.

- Spark plugs

engine history:

Oil changed a month ago to Mobile 1 5-w30
Spark plugs changed in jan/February of this year
Injectors changed/replaced in jan/feb of this year.
Currently at 74,xxx miles.

Thanks for any help. As I get a chance to read the codes I'll update this thread as well.

Update:

Pulled the codes from the procede:

11802
11703

So i know 11703 is a Misfire in Cylinder 3. I'll pull the spark plug out and check it and the coil plug tomorrow to see which one is bad. Hopefully it's just the plug. If so i'll just change all the plugs tomorrow ( Why not ). How much is a coil pack?

I don't know what 11802 is though, Searched on e90 and didn't find anything.

sounds like you missfired. Did you restart the car? Was it normal afterwards or still funky?

Turned off the car for 5 minutes. Started back up. Still acting wierd.

I'll probably go back to the car after an hour and see what it's doing.

11802 translates to 2E1A (in hex) and is the code for " Ignition Monitoring Cylinder 3 Spark Duration Too Short". And since it's accompanied by a misfire cylinder 3, I'd guess that something is amiss with your cylinder 3 ignition coil. Swap it with the coil from cylinder 4 and see if the codes follow the coil. I suspect they will. If they do, just replace that coil with a new one and you should be good to go.

aww that's sweet

I think around $80? Just guessing here. I know they aren't too expensive. But don't both buying one until you do that little test.

Ok,

So i switched the coils 3 / 4 today. Reset AFR/Vanos adaptations VIA procede then went for a spin:

- CEL light is no longer triggered, sputtering still persists but not as hard now, i can actually get on the throttle more

-WOT is pointless, misfire city

-Now i have 3 new codes:

11387 - Lambda probe behind catalytic converter, signal - o2 related
11388 - Lambda probe behind catalytic converter 2, signal -o2 related
12140 - Exhaust Flap ( Golf tee Mod )

So my question now is, should i ignore these codes and check the spark plug in cylinder 3 as it could be causing these issues now that i've swapped coils?

Maybe your 02 sensors are screwed up from your install of DPs?
