Car/Key Programming

Interested in knowing how other Z4 roadster owners have there car/key set up.

Main consideration regarding roof and windows.

I can currently open the roof/windows with the key from outside by pressing the button but don’t appear to be able to do the same to close. I can close by putting the key in the lock.

I would also like to open only the driver’s window to ease access by pressing button this can be done but need to be programmed.

Also looking for:

Follow me home lights
Lock doors after pulling away.
Turn on rear demister less than 3 degrees.
Would have DTR if had angels.

Anything else to consider?

A lot of people have it programmed so a flick of the turn signal flashes the turn light 3 times.

Check with your local stealer. They are the ones who have to do the programming anyway so they would probably be your best bet.
Good luck

Rick

thanks for the link, although there does not seem to be any options there regarding windows and roof that are mentioned in my manual.

However it has jogged my memoery on some other features such as auto lock after unlock and no entry.

Dammmittt

No by default BM's in UK dont auto lock doors (unless someone corrects me) my third BM and all the same, had to get it programmed.

My priority has to be the drivers window and the ability to open and close from outside the car to make entry/exit easier when parked in the garage.

Will book in at dealer in a couple of weeks and get all sorted cost £45 or $90

Garage List
Went to the dealer the other day in preperation for picking up my coupe at the PC. He actually ran through the list without me having to bring it up. Even I asked him about closing the windows with the key alone and he said that it was not an available option . Only way to do this was to insert the key in the lock and hold it in the locked position.

I also didn't see it on the list in the thread that Rick Hunter's provided us a link to above.

No, you can't close the roof or the windows with the key fob. You can only open them.

Out of all the options, I have DRL's (necessary by law here), automatic lock once you start driving, both doors unlock or lock when I use the key fob or the centre button inside....and I think that's it. Useful features, definitely!

i agree, its not an option to close the windows or roof with the key fob...only open is an option, and it only works some of the time.

I have my Z4 booked in with the local dealer who will print the list of for my car and will carry out all my changes for £47.

BM customers services in UK quoted that new cars should have up to three changes FOC and thereafter £50 per change

Just as well my local dealer is more friendly. (PS Car was pre registered therfore not considered new and therfore why not programmed)

Still can see why you cant close windows using remote though at least. I used to be able to on my E46 Coupe

Maybe you should wait until you have to get some service/maintenance done so that you can sweet talk them into throwing the reprogramming for free. Seriously, they just plug your car into their computer and then 10 minutes later (or less) it's done. I'd rather you pay the tech wage on something worth paying for. That's how I got mine done--->$0.

Problem is as the car is new, a service wont be required for over a year, and soem of the programming will make the car easier to live with.

Hmmm...fair enough.

If at all possible, we ZPost-ers would be interested in seeing the official BMW printout of the options list. Would you mind scanning a copy if you get it? I'd offer mine, but the stealers never gave me one.

Cheers

I, too, was looking for this option. I am 6'6" and its VERY difficult to get out of my 2006 3.0si Z4 with the top up.
As I understand it, I can close the roof with the key in the door lock turned and held in the locked position. Is that right?
