Nikon d5100
I have a nikon D70 & a few nikon lenses & was wondering if anyone has the D5100 & what they think about it ?
Just bought the Nikon 35mm F1.8 to try on the D70 before I sell it & upgrade to what looks like the 5100. Any thoughts ? |

It's a absolutely great camera with high quality screen. First I bought 3100 because it was cheaper and when I changed it for the 5100, the screen made a big different. Took picture at high resolution and they look like HD.

If your budget can stretch to a D7100, do it.
I borrowed one a couple of time and it was so good that I ended up buying one as well. http://snapsort.com/compare/Nikon-D5100-vs-Nikon_D70 |

Im thinking of selling my D90 just now and getting the D5100. Its technically meant to be a downgrade but I think the facts and figures of the d5100 are very good. One of the main reasons is the 5100 has auto focus on the 1080p video and I think it will be a nice addition with my first baby on the way. The 5100 also uses the same 16mp sensor that the D7000 uses. I am torn between the two. One other think that I think I might use is the flip out screen to aid composing akward shots and the d7000 doesn't have that. |

Image quality should be better on the D7000. I never missed the flip out screen. I also like the fact the D7000 is rain-proof, has dual memory cards and has a rear screen protector. Oh and if you were to ever need it autofocus on the video. |

Got the D5100....
Bought it from Best buy (closing down) with a kit Lens for £515. Cheapest I have seen on line is about £600 so well chuffed. Image quality with a 35mm prime lens is stunning compared to D70 & many say you dont need lots of Megapixels but now I'm not so sure. With 16MP you can just keep zooming in picking out more & more detail. It's like having a telescope. The flash photos are superb. Take a pic in a pitch black room with the flash & you would think it was daylight looking at the results. Colours are superb. Almost makes me think there must have been something wrong with my D70. Not to bothered about HD video so havent tried it as I have a HD camcorder for that job. Not tried any daylight shots as too busy working but will at the weekend. Been an expensive week...... 2x iPhone 4's (cheers Rich), new condensor dryer, 32gb ipod touch & the camera. |

Did a few indoor flash shots against the Iphone 4s using the 5100 (cos my lad thinks the pictures look amazing on the 4s) but when we put them on the pc to compare there was just no comparison. A bit of an unfair comparrison to be honest but he now realises the 4s images arent all they seem when viewing on the phone itself. Will try some sunny/daylight pics at the weekend. One other thing...... some of the family members dont like getting infront of the 5100 now having seen how "detailed" the images are. |

Nice choice - I had the 5000 before and upgraded to the 7000. Both great cameras.
