100,000Km service on an N52

Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone has thoughts on what should be replaced for the 100,000km service on a 2008 325 coupe?

So far I've got the following on my list:
  • Spark plugs
  • Air filter
  • Brake fluid
  • oil + filter obviously...
  • Transmission flush + filter change? any idea on a rough cost for this?
  • Replace diff oil
  • Replace cabin filter
  • Replace fuel filter
  • Replace coolant
  • Replace power steering fluid?

I know this may seem overkill but at this stage i may end up owning the car for a few more years so I'd like to keep it well maintained

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks

Your list is pretty exhaustive and not overly necessary to be honest... With a view to keeping the car for a few more years and tt depends on the last time everything else was replaced too....

I would start with:
- oil + filter
- plugs
- brake fluid
- air filter (perhaps replace with a high flow K&N)
- microfilter/cabin filter

And probably:
- transmission fluid flush, I think this can be done for around $500 at an indy place
- diff flush

But not necessarily:
- fuel filter
- power steering fluid (unless needed)
- coolant (unless needed)

N52 along with most late model BMWs use a timing chain

.. and they last a long time, 200k kms+ isn't uncommon.

Thanks for the replies guys.

The car has been owned by me since new and i've had it serviced every 10,000km regardless of what the CBS says. The spark plugs and cabin filter have never been replaced so they definitely need to be done.

I think I will leave the p/s fluid for the time being however unsure of the coolant. I've read on the forums that "dirty" coolant can be a factor that causes failure of the electric waterpump but not too sure on this

Also unsure of whether I should have the auto transmission fluid flushed + the filter changed? There seems to be many views on this, as some believe that once the transmission fluid has become "old" it is best not to replace it anymore since the new fluid can cause the transmission to start slipping whilst others think that is complete bullshit and changing the fluid would have no detrimental effect. It seems that a lot of the old fluid will remain in the torque converter anyway so not sure if its worth the money to even have it drained and filled with fresh fluid.

I've driven a lot of km's early on as it was quite a long drive to/from work everyday + I use to take it out for a blast on the backroads (blackspur, lake mountain, etc) on the weekends but I've moved very close to work now (5-10 minutes max) and live in the city also so end up driving it far less these days

Cheers

Yeh I'd do the transmission flush (even at 100,000kms)...

Coolant isn't too expensive anyway so do it for peace of mind.

Try get a lot of parts from the states, change what you can and indy to do the rest!
