afe intake weird experience.
I just installed the afe intake on my car. Sometimes when I stepped on the gas pedal at lower RPM around 2k to 2.5k, I noticed the car didn't accelerate as much as it supposed to. The RPM meter didn't really move as much either. When I put a little more pressure on the gas pedal, the RPM jumped to 3.4k and that was when the car started to pull. So it's like a surge sensation. Has anyone experienced similar problem like this one? Other than that the sound is awesome. The car pulled very hard when I slammed on the gas pedal. As for gas mileage I don't think there is any improvement.

My experience with aFe was weird; period.
But there's a fix. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=574347

from my experience it can be one of two things...
Either your MAF sensor is dirty from getting oil vapor (from the filter) onto it and is confusing your carputer's throttle response... this is caused by the MAF sensor sitting to deep into the intake tubing. Or hot air from the engine bay is getting into your engine and causing it to be jerky at times. The OEM airbox is designed to keep both things above from happening... you would have been better off taking the carbon filter out and dropping in a K&N filter... much throatier response without all the hassle. (that's what i did later on...) Last edited by N0OS3; 11-22-2011 at 06:45 AM.. |

I called AFE this morning and they told me that the car needs to run about 300 miles for it to recognize there is a change and adjust to the new hardware (afe intake) or I can remove the negative terminal for ~45 minutes then reconnect it to reset the system. They also told me that if there's an air leakage then I would see the warning light showed up in the dash. They also confirmed to me that they will look into the MAF sensor issue and relocate its position if needed. Hopefully they can resolve all the issues with this MAF sensor that people been experiencing. So what do you think? Should I disconnect/reconnect the negative terminal or let the car burn in? Or throw this POS intake away and go back to the OEM box? But I love the sound that this intake produces though. *sigh*

BS all over it.
I've spent HOURS trying to make that intake working the way it should. Even a hard reset on the adaptations with my BT cable didnt cut it. Went back to OEM and the pull was crazy compared to aFe. Then I did the charcoal delete; no changes at all. Went for K&N filter; still nothing. But the performance intake is the only one that got me that intake sound I was looking for; coupled with the pull that a closed box intake provide. Any box that is sealed is money for this car. Otherwise; its a waste of everything.

The AFE gives a weird airflow, that interferes with the MAF, I hear you can add a spacer to the MAF seal about 1/4" and that fixes it - but I never tried it as I got annoyed that it made me lose power on the dyno so I get rid of it.

What kind of material do you use for the seal? I would love to try it out. I already bought the damn intake, can't back out now.

you are basically spacing out the MAF from the intake port. I would think aFe would put more though into a system and it should just work right out of the box |
