High Engine RPM
I have a 2006 325i and bought it new. In the past 5-6 years, I experienced very high engine RPMs when I push the start button. Usually when I start the engine, it goes to about 800-900 RPM which is the normal idle. But on a few occasions when I push the start button, the engine will go to about 4000 RPMs before I can stop the engine. I'm sure if I didn't stop the engine, the RPMs would go higher.
When this happens I'll start the engine again and it usually does a normal start. About 6 months ago, I experienced a high RPM start and I stopped the engine and restarted it. It took about 5 tries before the engine did a normal start. Since that last time, it hasn't happend again. The high RPM start has happened about 5 occasions in the past 6 years, so it is very rare. Because of this it's not a major concern, but I'm concerned if this should happen if I turned my car over to a valet at a restaurant. Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone have an idea what is the cause for this malfunction? |
