Is this tire still ok?

Hey all, I was outside mucking around in my garage earlier today and noticed this damage on the sidewall of my ML500's front-passenger tire. I honestly have no idea how it happened, there's no other damage to the region surrounding it and I know I didn't curb it, so it's kind of weird, unless something happened last time I ran through an automatic car wash. It's not leaking air btw.

So for those of you wise in the tire tech department, is this tire ok? Is it cosmetic damage or should I consider replacement? Had Yokohama not discontinued this size, I'd just buy one and be done with it, but since they did I'd have to replace all 4 for at least CAD$1500 which obviously wouldn't make me happy. I mean I'm concerned with safety, but am I over-reacting?

The tire is a Yokohama AVS S/T in 275/45/19

Thanks in advance!

I don't like the look of the tire in general. In the second picture there seems to be a small gouge just above and to the right of the bigger gouge. Also, the rubber seems to be quite dry and old. I am pretty cautious when it comes to sidewall damage. BTW, it looks like whomever drives the ML needs some curb feelers.

I can't really explain why the tire looks dry and old either. I bought them in '04 so they've only gone through 3 summers, which equates to about 18-20 months on the vehicle. I guess I really should bring it into a tire shop tomorrow and ask for a professional opinion. I never was that happy with the feel of these tires in the first place; they're noisy and constantly require re-balancing but they do look pretty from the back. Still, $1500 is $1500, but I don't want the thing to pop either.
