Too much refinement for my tastes. Coupled with a slushbox tranny it just doesn't meet my criteria of a fun car to drive. Fast - OMFG yes, but not necessarily fun.....

While its no sports cars car its isn't as refined as you think, I have a 03 Benz E55 and it handles and drives like a dream even with the auto tranny, its still the hardest accellerating car from 90MPh I've ever been in, yet its completely refined to carry the family around. After driving my E55 its takes about a week for the Z4 to feel fast again. Believe it or not i still find the Z4 more fun to drive...

Well...that's cuz you don't have an M. You drop it into third or even fourth gear around 90 and you'll take off...

I've driven a ///M Z4 and it is fun, but not even close. My E55 runs away from non V10 M5s pretty easy. Like I said before i still like driving my Z4 cause i drive it closer to the limit than the E55 which pins you back in the seat like a 60s/70s muscle car with over 500 ft lbs of torque at 1,800 rpms. i love em both!!

What's the torque curve look like? cuz chances are you dont' have it at the RPMs you'll be driving at if you get 500 at 1800 rpms.

An E55 is also twice the size a M z4...Maybe we should race and decide it once and for all

The torque curve is about as flat as it gets, at 2600 RPMS it peaks at 516 Ft lbs and carrys that well into the the rpm range, at 6100 RPMs it putting out 469 HP this is all stock only mod is new tires. A race wouldn't be close at all, a M5 just walks away from a Z4m, and the E55 is faster than a M5 (non V10). I've given mustang 5.0s 4 and 5 car lengths and beaten them in the 1/4 mile. I'm not trashing the Z4M its a nice and fast car, but your comparing apples to oranges 3.2 6 cylinder to a 5.5 V8 supercharged. Please enjoy your car, just remember there are quite a few much faster cars out there on the road. The new E63 is faster than my E55 without a supercharger, there is always something faster...

Yea it's pretty obvious that an e55 would out-accelerate a z4m...no question about that. E55's/M5's/RS6's are friggin highway kings. Let's see how an e55 does driving up a mountainous road where your weight will be a factor compared to a z4M.

Agreed, the open highway is the home turf for big V8 sedans such as the AMG E-class cars and the BMW M5s. Mountain twisties and the track are more suited to the Z and so each car will shine when on their home court

It's cool man, the Z4M isn't suppose to be a drag racer. It's an overall sports car. I was just curious as to the torque curve, cuz I didn't know. That's an awesome engine. Going fast in straight lines is fun...but going fast through turns is even more fun, so I totally agree with you that the Z4 would be more fun any day of the week.
