Anyone tried the Vanguard exhaust on a 6AT?

Curious if anyone's tried it. I tried a car with an AA exhaust on a 6AT, and the car would have terrible drone in 6th on the highway, and would roar like a defective tiger around 2,500 rpms up to 3,000 - then taper out and sound "good" up to the redline. I know the exhaust probably needed some chopping and resonators installed, and probably that 6MT would not have sounded the same, hence the question.

I recently purchased a Vanguard exhaust and have 6AT. This is tough to describe as drone noise is subjective. I have never heard the AA exhaust, and this is my first exhaust ever on any car that I have owned. In my experience so far if I drive it in Sport Mode, on the freeway doing between 65-75 in 6th I get drone for sure. However if I put it in "D" and press the gas just enough to maintain speed I find that I can bring the exhaust note down to just a little bit louder than a completely stock exhaust w/ the "golf tee mod." The note is best described as quiet enough to hear your radio at a somewhat normal level but loud enough to know that you have an aftermarket exhaust. Hope that helps!

ok - that's a good description, thanks. the JCW exhaust on the Mini is about the same. now - what about acceleration and climbing through gears? with the AA in question, there would be an "unreasonable" noise spike at 2,500 which would subside (unreasonable bc 2500 is not high enough for the engine to scream).

Drone is subjective as everyone's sensitivity to sound is different. Hypnotiq's description is right on the money as well. As with any exhaust. Keep in mind that the Vanguard exhaust system does actually have resonators incorporated in it's design which will help to quiet the system down in general as well. However, you do have to keep in mind that the Vanguard exhaust system is only compatible with the E90/E92 335i models and are not compatible with the xi models.

I have the Vanguard on a 6AT and COBB Stage 2+. It drones a lot, but I don't hear it with music and windows open. I've heard a custom Vanguard with HFC and it sounded perfect

Gotcha - that's what i figured. I guess that's the jinx of AT.

Not to mention that I have an 'xi' so I'd probably have to do some blowtorch wizardry to make it fit in the first place. Hum. Oh well.

I have 6AT and the Vanguard doesn't drone all that much at city driving. Even on the higway if you keep a steady speed it's just a bit louder then stock, just enough to let you kow that there's some work done to the car. However if you are in 6th and give it throttle from 2000-3000rpm there is audible sound in the cabin. I LOVE it however, I LIKE TO HEAR MY EXHAUST

Around the city it is pretty quiet.

Talk to MATT@Camber-Toe for the info. It's possible with some custom work.
