Looking for TV while driving

For those with Nav Prof, was wondering if any of you have tried any of the overseas products for enabling the TV picture while car is moving ?

There are some products in germany which are just like an in-line cable that you plug in and makes it happen, but its about 189 euro ... a bit much !

I have also read about a program called "BMW Scanner" which allows you to alter your car's settings via a serial interface to your PC/laptop. This is only available for the older models though - have not seen anything like this for the E90.

I have also seen the Nav2tvgo product but I think that's a bit over the top - just looking for a simple solution where I don't have to mortgage the house

Costa, as you most likely know, we have 2 BMW specialists on the Aussie forum: Lea and Astra. I can guarantee they will have an answer for you.

Cheers.

I prefer the term Man Whore.

I guess you are right astra, I do sometimes tend to wander off-topic.

Now let me see..... what is this thread's topic.... "Looking for TV while driving"?? Hmmmm. My advice is buy a normal TV and a really long extension cord.

Cheers.

Hi Astra,

Thanks for posting this info. I was hoping for something cheaper here in Oz but it looks like it's early days for the E90.

Have you or anyone else in the forum used one of these products ? If so, could you tell us if you're happy with it, and whether there's any side effects (I saw an article in another forum saying it affected speed calculations in Nav because the product filters out the car speed).

Thanks
Costa.

Theres a company in Melbourne busy working away on this. Its just a CAN filter that filters the speed and the hand brake signal. Side effects would include the ability of the NAV to operate incorrectly. The idea would be to have a switch to turn the filter on/off so the NAV could work correctly when switched off.

They tell me it should be ready by the end of the year when they have time to complete it amongst their other BMW projects.

Hey All,

You can do it yourself with a USB Dongle and the Shareware software BMW Nav Coder.
The dongle is only $45Euro delivered.
With the software you can not only enable TV while driving, but get rid of the I Agree screen on bootup.
All done by plugging into your ibus (CD Changer cable).

Anyone in Perth I'm happy to help them out.

Regards
Rod.

**JUST FOUND OUT THE E90/92's use a MOST Bus no longer iBus. My method will only work with X3, X5 and Z4's and they still use iBus**

Sorry for the faulse hope.....I'm now in the queue wanting to know how to hack the MOST bus.

Hmmm ... or maybe the dealer sold it to another person at a higher price for ASAP delivery??. Colour is generally not something that dealers make a mistake on when ordering.

Check your state laws, maybe illegal to have TV in motion visible to the driver. Definitely the case in Qld and I believe the same in most of not all states. Maybe ramifications if you have a crash and watching TV in motion was a factor and car was deemed to be illegally modified.
