Most AT that are record holders start off on 2nd gear

I have seen people have success with 2nd gear launches in automatic cars however if you have a manual car you will want to start in 1st.

if you have drag tire setup and can heat them up ... 1st gear.

if you have a street tire setup, 2nd gear.

What chip do you have? Some like the Proceed have traction control features that enable first gear launches, even with 400+ RWHP. The chip reduces torque at the milisecond level to enable traction, which works much differently than the factory DTC which applies the brakes and slows you down. I launch in 1st but short shift at around 3,500 RPM into 2nd for the best results on my car.

If you are asking me (vs the OP), I do not. In fact, I probably push the pedal 3/4 of the way down to get the best launch, and manually short shift on the paddle shifters around 3,500/4,000 rpm.

Brake boost and launch in 2nd for most consistant runs. You will also have 1 less gear to shift into when launching in 2nd. Hotrod did some testing - 1st gear launch = better 0-60. 2nd gear launch = better 1/4 mile.

If you are flooring it in 1st....you are just going to sit there and spin. Anything more than 1/2 throttle is almost too much in 1st.

I have my kickdown switch "disabled". I beleive 78% throttle position = 100% throttle.

If you read the other threads about making a spacer to put under the peddle, don't bother. The peddle has a ball and socket connection on the shaft, just pull on it and it will come out. Then you can put rubber washers or spacers over the shaft. Then snap the ball and socket back together and test it. You may need to add more to get it shimmed out, but it makes a world of differance. Nothing worse than a hard pull in 3rd only to have it kick down to 2nd with over 400 rwhp. Try that some day while turning a corner and see how quick you can get out of it. LOL

Once you have it so it doesn't kick down, hook your laptop up and log some data to make sure your able to get to WOT. BTW, your AT will still kick down in D or DS, but in M it will not. Have fun.
