it is a double letter "S" which stands for standard scope inspection. basically they check all the fluids and scan the car with the computer to check for issues

Is one of your bulbs out .

I lost my rear tail light recently and that same symbol came up.

Kind of looks like a filament to me.

No a standard scope is linked to any service needed. ie oil service, brakes etc. there is no reset for it. Thats the state inspection, it's not used every where and it can be reset if you're not due for state or emissions inspections.

Btw standard scopes haven't included a fault check/ vehicle test since '09. Techs don't just check faults for fun...Esp when theres no pay involved for it

It is the "Roadworthiness test" indicator. In other words time for your emissions test. This is usually set by the dealership during car delivery based on the emission requirements for your area. It is date dependant and you can reset it to any date you want. (I just did this since I bought the car in another state and my state does not require an emissions test this year.)

To set this to a new date (in a car without iDrive), bring up the indicator on the dash, press and hold the BC button until the date comes up on the screen. You can then use the up and down switch to change the month. Press the BC button again to highlight the year and use the up and down switch to change the year. Press BC one more time to save the new values.
