Too much electronic music than the 335is can handle
I guess the dubstep drops were too sick for the HK audio system to handle
This was after 3 hours of full blasting, but it cooled down within minutes after I took the cover plate from the trunk above the amp (it was scorching hot). First time it's happened to me. |

This is the optional HK upgraded system? I've never had that happen.

Yeah. I've played mixed genres of music many times before at high volume for more than 4hrs+ non stop before, no problems (and that was in 110F summer weather, compared to 70F today). I'm pretty sure the bass heavy assault of electronic music is a lot more stressful for the amp than a mix of other genres.

It's a subliminal message from BMW reminding you how terrible dubstep is
(half joking, I don't care what music you listen to. Just my opinion.)

^Yeah, check my edit. I should've included that in my initial post.

I can't count how many times my amp has clipped due to the bass in some of the electronic music I listen to. Not a big dubstep fan, but I can totally see how it overwork an amp!! I have the upgraded system in my 07 and for a stock system it's better than any other I've heard (stock, that is), but during the summer the plastic cover over the amp is permanently removed due to clipping. The first time it happened I really thought I toasted it, but after about 5 mins, it cooled down and came back on. It's weird though because when mine goes, I just lose the bass. Mids and highs are still going, just no low end. Once it cools down, totally fine. My amp gets extremely hot to the touch also, like you can't touch it hot!!! I probably should have had it replaced while the car was still under warranty, but a little late now I guess!!
