Car catches fire.
Yesterday i picked up my car from the local dealership here in Miami and noticed the car had driveability issues. Partial throttle hesitation and Misfires at WOT. Never had this before. I found it strange that I took the car in because my ABS, DSC and brake light were on (wheel speed sensor problem) and they kept the car for 2 days only to tell me that all that was change was rear brakes because the car needed them. They said I had to come back in a week to change the sensor because they couldnt do so under warranty with just the codes present (didn't make much sense to me).
Today I get in my car to drive to a friends house and when i get within a mile of his house I picked up the smell of smoke but thought it was just the truck i was driving behind getting off the high way. I then pull into his neighbor hood and smoke starts pouring into the cabin. I call him on his phone and told him to get the water hose quick the car was on fire. He met me at the drive way and started spraying the car before i got out. I opened the hood and saw smoke pouring from under the engine cover and the water wouldnt put it out regardless of where we sprayed. Luckily he's studying to be an automotive tech so he grabbed his tools and while i was spraying he removed the cowl and engine cover only to see that the coils and the material around them was on fire. Needless to say the car doesn't start now that the fire is out and i'm waiting for the tow truck to get here to take the car back to the dealership. Wonder what the dealership was snooping around with in those 2 days it took them to change my brakes.

WOW! You should take pictures for insurance purposes!

You have quit a list of mods in your sig. I would defintily have those off this time if your under warranty since this will defintly be drawing more attention than your local dealer level. Also take pics since this might be an insurance claim.

BMW tech friend said it could have been a leak in the injector that some how managed to get ignited by the coil pack. Who knows.

Anyone can write anything in their sig. I could have put something like vishnu single turbo upgrade in there and 12 extra injectors.

Coil packs and all the insulation material around the engine cover are melted thats the only place the fire was. Could be the reason i was having driveability issues and the misfires.

Oil or fuel got in between the coils and the sparkplug causing a fire the coil pack might have not.been seated correctly and caused the missfires

Maybe I'm missing your point? I'm just saying in a case like this you have all these mods in your signature and I would definitely have removed whatever said mods you have or might not have to make sure BMW has no way to back out of covering this and your forced to use your own insurance and pay your deductible..Good luck

Thanks. No point the car has full exhaust and intercooler on it as it sits at the dealership. So they know its modified. No point trying to lie about that. I'm just saying that the forum is not a good source if they wanted to bring that up for a reason to not cover the case. All my mods were either done at a dealership or aided by a tech and ignition and fuel system work has always been done at the dealership as part of the maintenance and warranty program. No reason anything I have done should have affected these.
