Upgraded Turbo Availability?

Of all the options that are out there to upgrade N54 turbos are all of them likley to have a long lead time (ie > 1month)?

The options I'm loosly aware of are RB, ASR, Helix, and AWD.

Trying to gather current market info for product features, pricing, and availability...

Thanks, am already doing that for the ones I know of.... Its also amazing sometimes at how much more timely and more data responses have with a publicly visible thread vs just a few PMs

I, for one, think its a great idea to have a thread that contains the available info on upgraded twins. I do think the most direct method would be to email the manufacturers themselves thru their website(when available) rather than PMs. It seems to me that upgraded turbos are starting to become more and more common on the forums so hopefully first hand info will become more available

Rob Beck is almost caught up on his order list. About 6 sets going out tomorrow (including mine) and the rest of his list soon after. I don't know what his turn -around time will be when taking new orders. You should PM him.

It's a shame hpf isn't farther along with their single kit yet. Also I did read AR has a upgrade available now, but obviously no real world longevity tests to speak of

My understanding of the AR single kit is that it was an R&D effort that isn't currently headed for production. I like the TQ curve that the twins give anyway, just need it to pull harder for longer in the RPM range.

^ You're misunderstanding lol. AR had previously spoken of a single turbo kit, but Chris @ AR recently posted up a picture of AR Design Upgraded Turbos. This was a month ago.

Wow, that's wierd that when AR commented earlier today on this thread they didn't mention having an option. Strangely enough that post and a few others that referenced it were deleted...

Rather than censoring info, maybe they should be updating a few of the stickies to reflect recent advancements and/or info

Or banning people due to a few controversial discussions...which shifts a lot of good info over to b i m m m e r b o o s t.

No reason for a business to withhold information on upcoming products. As long as lead times are fair and reasonable (read: accurate), or they update potential customers quite often. It's better marketing for them, and allows us to time out modifications accordingly.

In this case, there are a lot of instances where people upgrade twins after blowing stock ones. Why settle for something you didn't have your heart set on because the vendor decided to be hush about it!

update on responses so far

Well, if you are looking for upgraded twins and you have a 335 the availability of units from a few vendors isn't looking too bad.

If you are looking for 135i upgraded twins, then you are going to be forced into a much longer wait. Apparently cores for these PNs are much harder to find...

This summary is based on direct feedback from just a few of the vendors with offerings, but I suspect its not likley to be much different for any of the others today.

At least one of them is slightly different. IIRC its the back one and the 135's is a touch smaller for clearance. I would assume that a 135 set could be used on a 335, but not the other way around because the 335's rear unit won't physically fit.

Confirming all the above on realoem.com , would probably be a good idea if you need to know for sure...

They will not be interchangeable without swapping some other parts around... And it wouldn't work the way we'd desire as we would like LHD 335 turbos to work on all others. Don't think that will work. All others may work on LHD 335 with the right conversion parts, but that doesn't fix the problem as the cores on all others (non LHD 335) is the limiting factor to begin with...
