E92, E93, E this and E that
Anyone have a list of the reference to the E #'s. I know the E92 refer to 335i coupe and E90 sedan... what are all the rest of the E's refer to ?
sorry... not that familiar with the real BMW terminology. |

LOL..I feel you man, there are certain things that you just dont get what people are saying. Like when they abreviate words together. I stay like 10 mins staring at it so i could get a clue on what they are trying to say.
but back to your topic: E90- SEDAN E91- TOURING ( station wagon ) E92- COUPE E93- CONVERTIBLE |

also, how and why they come up with the numbers?
e36 (all configs the same number) --> e46 (all configs the same number) --> e9x has different designation for a different configuration (Coupe, Sedan...). and why 36, 46 then 90? Why not 56? Ot 47, or... Anyone? |

Wonder if they will go to a new letter when the E9X is replaced?

the older nomenclature was a bit different and could expand out further. for example, on the e36: E36/2 3 Series Coupe E36/2S M Series (M3) Coupe E36/2C 3 Series Convertible E36/2CS M Series (M3) Convertible E36/3 3 Series Touring E36/4 3 Series Sedan E36/4S M Series (M3) Sedan E36/5 3 Series Compact E36/7 Z Series (Z3 Roadster) E36/7S M Series (M Roadster) E36/8 Z Series (Z3 Coupe) E36/8S M Series (M Coupe)

The explanation I've heard is that projects get an E number long before a final go/no-go. The "holes" in the master list are the projects that got canned sometime during development.
The link I posted was kind of sparse; the list from Wikipedia looks pretty complete to my eyes. There was also a thorough listing published in the Roundel in the past year or so to supplement the "common E-codes" overview in the classifieds section every month. |
