Misfire 4k after new plugs 29D1 code - Sorted
This was driving me nuts. Had a misfire at low revs and had thought it had to be an injector or coil as I had just fitted new OEM plugs about 4k miles ago.
Took a while but eventually got a 29D1 cylinder 5 misfire code and out of curiousity I swapped the plug for one of the old ones that was still kicking about my toolkit. Wow its like a new car again. Driven it for a week now to make sure it was that before ordering a new plug. The idle is now rock solid and the little hesitations and stutters below 2000rpm have gone! Never heard of a plug failing that quickly and hope it was just a dodgy plug and a one off. Worth trying for any of you with similar issue. |

Inspect Your Plugs B4 Installing
I just received my new set of plugs - I was getting misfires at high RPMS in cylinder 6 after upgrading to Cobb S2+ on original plugs
Inspect your plugs before installing them. One of the six plugs I got definitely has a bad gap... |

Judging by the mark on the bad gap picture I'd say that plug got dropped or was damaged during installation...

I finally had a chance to install my new plugs. Misfires are gone; car runs like a champ again. Feels great to bury my foot down again on S2+
Here are the original plugs after 35k miles |

I'm about to upgrade to Dinan S3 and have 34K miles on my 07 E92...no misfiring so far, but looks like I might be about ready for a plug change too. Even with the relatively low miles, they're over 5 years old now. Probably wouldn't hurt.

Cheap insurance, much better to do them pre-emptively than to install S3 and have problems with 35k mile old plugs. Tuned N54s should get plugs every 20-25k at least.

You always have to double-check the gaps on the plugs before installing them; and I even gap them down by .004 as well to help them last a little bit longer.
Regarding replacing the plugs as a pre-requisite for new tune/more power; I have recently made it compulsory for customers to have new spark plugs instlalled at the same time as I install the tune. I've done 3 tune installs in the past few months which where the customer came back within a week with misfires. 2 of the 3 cars only had 20k miles and one with 30k. Even though its completely understandable and an easy fix; it's best to just do it at the same time as the tune or increasing power just to rule out the possibility of misfires due to poor plugs. |

OK. I'm convinced - I'll probably see if my installer can do the plugs when he does the oil cooler. I'd tackle that one myself if I had the correct socket and the time, but it's worth it to me to let someone who does it for a living and has years of experience do it right. Thanks for the insights!

Does it matter if you get plugs from BMW or sites like this :
http://www.4wheelsautoparts.com/bmw-...e2-p-2916.html It's a Bosch ZGR6STE2 whether it's from here or at dealership, no? And price is 1/2 of dealer's. |

I bought the spark plug socket from my dealer, was like $50 with the CCA discount. Plugs I believe are around $20. I plan to replace all 6 on Monday, running stock tune all weekend to see if I can replicate the misfire/s but it just won't happen at 8.5 psi lol. I do have the new Continental HPFP, plus all 6 new part number injectors (under warranty). My LPFP was replaced at like 2k miles along with the sensor at some point. They tested the coils, no problems.
