Glitch in Allocation System - It's TRUE

I just heard from a family member that works at BMW NA that there were up to 2,000 production numbers CANCELLED... "There was a glitch in the allocation system. The dealers never earned the production slots".

If this happened to you, your dealer needs to get you a new number for June or July.

I have mine. But sorry to hear this IF it is true (but it is hard to believe it is).

In the meantime, I will sit back and monitor this thread.

I am pretty sure they are still using mainframe punch cards for the order system. Some guy carrying a box of them must have tripped and they fell down an open manhole cover.

it's true that there was a bit of a problem with the june allocations. the thing is that these orders were ones that no one expected to be filled for june... so the fact that they got pulled in was only a momentary excitement. hopefully other dealers didn't over-sell based on those 2 days where they appeared in inventory. I personally had one of my 4.8 x5 orders cancelled but we had been expecting july production so it wasn't really a surprise.

This happened to me, so it is not BS.

My production number was "deleted" and my CA had no clue what happened, nor did anyone over at BMW NA.

Old production number was 3678***, my new one is 3686***. So yeah. I don't think there was much (any) delay incurred, just some weirdo glitch.

Here's my post about it:

The Dealer Ordering System froze up on April 26th, and rebooted it self. The thing was, April 26th was the day that all dealers were allocated their June allocation, so when the system rebooted, it put extra orders into dealers pipeline. We had three messages show up in our DCSnet message box about production numbers being canceled, and sure enough those numbers disappeared. The production numbers were flukes for dealerships - and they were never actually allocated them. They probably sold you one of those numbers - and when it was canceled they gave you a different, available number. That's all.

Here's my post about it:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60016
I ordered a 335i coupe the last weekend of April. My production number is (was?) 3686***. after reading the recent posts about production stop/glitch I decided to call the 800 # to check on my tentative production date. the CS rep told me the production # is not found in his system even though i can track it on OC and the automated system (current status says it's on order).

I just gave my CA a call and he told me the same thing - he has no idea what the exact problem is but he and the management of my dealer are aware of the situation and trying to find out what's up with the German production center. he mentioned something about overbooking of allotments as well.

Sigh, my original production date/week was supposed to be the last week of june. maybe i'll get downgraded to july/august now.....

As I stated in the "335i Production Stop" thread, I have established contact with a representative at the Regensburg plant (where the E9* are produced), and asked him for clarification of this issue. I will post his response when, and if, I get it...

Hey don't freak out, I was originally scheduled for Week 25 with my OLD production number, and with my NEW one I'm now Week 23. So, yeah... I'm sure things are fine, I would stop by your dealer this week and ask your CA to get your new production number, and if he can't do it talk to the manager because at least he should be aware of the problem.

I don't know "how" my CA received my new production number, wish I could tell you.. whether it was an e-mail from bmw, a phone call, i don't know, but apparently yours hasn't received this information yet. Do something about it though, because even though it's trackable with Owner's Circle and the 800 no, your production number is officially dead

Keep us posted
