Blown Diff on 335....common?

I blew my diff (2nd gear) this past weekend and was wondering if this is common on the 335?

From everything I read it seems the 335 diff can take a lot of abuse for a non-LSD.

Any thoughts?

Was it the actual diff or the half shaft?
Blown half shaft is very possible with cars that have upgraded turbos...

The dealer is replacing the DIFF, not either shaft. I will know more Monday when I pick it up. I am only going off what they told me yesterday on the phone.

I don't really want to discuss that since it's at the dealer right now getting covered under CPO.

Yes, the car was in second when it happened. I think the problem was there and finally gave out.

Suffice it to say, the car is not driven that hard, especially out of the hole, and I'm suprised this happened when I have driven previous cars MUCH harder. I'm just wondering going forward if this can happen again....

And Kylu, I think he was asking valid questions.

In answer to the original question, I'd say absolutely not. First I've ever heard of anyone breaking a 335 diff. Maybe fat tires and too much torque? Something had to give! I blew the spider gears in a diff on a car I had years ago that had the same setup (mo power, fat tires), but it was a GM product and obviously not meant for hard launches.

Yeah I would think its from a hard launch revving the motor to 2500 and stomping on the pedal that would do it especially power levels of a tuned car with boltons.

You really need an excuse? Its your car do as you like. Oh and you wont regret an LSD, it really does transform these cars.

It's covered under CPO warranty so I will take the replacment for now.

Down the road I *may* go to an LSD, but for now I need to focus on getting the mods I have in boxes (DPs, CF Trim, OCC, HID fogs) on the car.

Well, I got the car back yesterday and the tech's notes stated that the right rear output shaft inner joint was not flexing properly during rotation causing the differential to vibrate excessively and bind internally.

So, the diff failed because of the passenger side shaft joint.
