Feedback on VM CSL reps with General Exclaim UHP tires
I am seriously considering a set of VM CSL wheels and General Exclaim UHP tires instead of Beyern mesh wheels and Toyo Proxes 4 tires. Would like some first hand feedback from anyone running VM wheels and General tires for several thousand miles. Specifically interested in your comments on the following:
Ride as compared to OEM tires especially if you originally had RFTs Handling as compared to OEM Any trouble with balancing? Durability of the wheels, any chipping, flaking, discoloration, etc.? Thanks. Feel free to send an email or PM. Also accepting offers on my 189 wheels and RFTs. They will have only the mileage from SC to MD.

Ive seen some posts with guys having vibration issues with CSLs, but I dunno too much about it. Maybe they are from a different manufacturer than VM.

General tires? I know you are military but it isnt a good name for UHP. =) they dont test the products as rigorously as Toyo would for example. And research on tread compound is bound to be lacking. why not CSL's with Toyo/Bridgestone?

the general exclaim tires are great tires, people that havent had them, dont know anything about them. i told myself he same thing before buying set,
" oh general tires, how good could they be for so cheap...." anyway, let me tell you that i have owned toyo proxes 4 and these tires are better. handling is awesome.... shares many caracteristics with any other UHP tire..... and did i mention that they weigh 5 pounds less a tire in 19" sizes compared to many other companies. as for the wheels, dont know much about them.... but i do know that VM makes a pretty good product, and many people on this forum have VM wheels. |

I have Toyo Proxes 4 on my MINI and are pretty happy with them. Can't find a vendor that can provide CSL reps with Toyo tires. Neither of the forum sponsors can get Toyos so I am considering the Generals. They are getting very good reviews on Tirerack and the price is right. I am actually more concerned with the wheels. I want a nice smooth ride with no vibration. Is there any real difference in the quality of the mounting and balancing between the two vendors, you know who I am talking about. Thanks.

i can not comment about general tires but I can about velocity wheels. I had a set with goodyears on them that I could not get to run smooth at all
had them redone and balanced locally 5 times with no success, ended up throwing them in boxes and shipping them right back to velocity, i bought from J Levi and am waiting for a brand new set of wheels and tires to arrive at my place VERY soon I dont know if it was the wheels themselves or the tires that were the problem but I can say that the quality visually of the wheel was very nice. |

rmorin, I know you've PMed me asking about the Generals and I replied, but wanted to publicly too.
They are made by Continental. They are excellent tires, put the name Continental or Michelin on them and they'd sell for twice the price! There are few things in life where you get MORE than what you paid for, these tires are one of those times. Unless you are going to a track and want or need the absolute maximum performance tires, these Generals are better than 90% of the tires out there for 50% of the price. Get them. |

My experience with the General UHP's has been excellent. I used them on other vehicles before, with very good results. Just got another set, along with some Beyern Mesh in 19'' for my E90. Could not be happier with this setup.

Would really like to see some pics of cars with Beyern mesh wheels, 18 or 19s. Am close to pulling the trigger on a setup with the General tires. Can anyone comment on Falken 512 or Kumho ASX tires. I just put a set of 512s on my MINI and I like them as well or better than the Proxes 4, at about 50% of the cost. Has anyone bought from BuyWheelsToday? They sell Beyern wheels but not General tires. Who sells Beyerns and General? Thanks.

The General UHPs have been tried and tested over in the M3forum.net community and I haven't read one negative review. I went with these tires on my GLI and they are the perfect tire. They are quiet, grippy, and inexpensive.
As far as the Velocity Wheels, Shoushi Malouche posted a thread about there being some vibration issues with the wheel/tire set up, and I'm very interested in this. I'm really hoping that there hasn't been multiple vibration issues with these since my wheels are on order. This is the first time I've heard anything about vibration problems with the wheels so I'm hoping that the problem was the tires.

Handling is better than the RFTs. It is more neutral now. I used to have some more oversteer before. Quote:

bmvw,
Those rims look great. I'm thinking of getting the same style. Where did you get the rims from? What size, offset, and tire size are you using? Any rubbing? |
